Unusable! They would never be selected in store.
I ordered 2 blocks. They both have knots and one is covered in grey stains. They are not really usable for carving so I won't buy again.

Perfect for Novelty Carving Projects
The timber is consistent and easy to carve using chisels and knives. Takes paint well both as a stain and opaque finish.

Easy to check availability and buy locally.
Needed wood for hand-carving at very short notice and was thrilled to realise that Hobbycraft has a small supply. It was reasonably priced, I checked online that it was available in the local store, and was pleased with the consistent quality throughout the piece. Will use again!

The problem with buying on line is that there is a high chance that you get wood with blemishes and knots that one would never select in store .

This is a good sized piece of bass wood, nice patterning to it too, should be perfect for carving. Price was acceptable
