How to make

Botanical Eggs

These precious eggs work beautifully in so many different ways. First you get to go foraging (responsibly) for some pretties to place in the eggs shells, then once frozen your little one gets to peel the egg shell off to discover the treasure encased in its icy surround.

Fantastic for fine motor skills and will definitely keep them occupied for a few precious moments!

Using a knife, carefully break a small hole in your eggs and then pour out the insides. Why not use the insides for some baking?

Fill the egg shells with the foraged blooms and leaves, then fill with water. Use cooled boiled water as this will ensure the ice is as clear as possible.

Place the eggs in the freezer and leave overnight. Arrange some leaves around the eggs and leave it in the garden for the children to discover.

Botanical Ice Bundt Cake

This botanical ice bundt 'cake' is so beautiful it could easily be used for a dinner party as a centre piece.

Placing a candle (battery operated or real) in the centre is a lovely way to see all the natural pieces inside the ice and it makes a beautiful luminary as the evening draws in.

Place all the flowers and leaves into the bundt tin and then fill with water. Freeze it overnight.

To remove the ice, place the tin in a basin of warm water to loosen it, then turn out onto a plate. Place a candle in the centre if desired.

Ice Paints

These fun paints create a darker intensity the more they melt, so are such a great way to explore mark making outside.

Making them in an old ice cube tray creates a little palette which is fun to use and if all the cubes aren't used in one session they can be popped back in the freezer to use another day.

Squeeze a small amount of paint (roughly enough to cover the bottom of the cavity) into each cube space and top with water.

If using regular size lolly sticks, carefully break them in half and then place them in each cube, giving them a mix as you do so.

Freeze overnight and then take the ice cube tray out for a few minutes before using, so they loosen, they will then come out easily by gently pulling the lolly sticks.

Floral Ice Cubes

Make a pretty potion by creating these gorgeous floral ice cubes.

They can be stacked, mixed and stirred into icy sensory stew.

This is a lovely opportunity to discuss different types of flowers and leaves, their shapes and smells take joy in the outside world.

Place the flowers and leaves into the cubes and then fill with water. Use cooled boiled water to make the ice cubes as clear as possible.

Freeze overnight and then pop out to use. Use cups of warm water to see the cubes melting and leaving behind their foraged treasures.

Unicorn Eggs

Carefully push a unicorn into a balloon, slowly easing the sides over the sharper points – you don't want any holes in your balloon!

Fill the balloon with water - be careful not to overfill! Tie a knot in the top, place in a container (to ensure they keep their egg shape) and freeze overnight.

Snip off the knot and then peel off the balloon.

Shake on some bio glitter to finish. Arrange some foliage or feathers around the eggs to create an ethereal look.
