Introducing Emily – Yarn Master

Hi, I'm Emily and I am the Yarn Master at Hobbycraft.

I look after the development of the knit, crochet and macrame patterns from initial mood board through to design, checking and testing. I also look after the Knitcraft social channels and love to see all of the amazing projects that come through.

How did you first get into knitting?

I first got into knitting when I was about 10 years old and my Great Nan asked me to knit squares for a charity blanket. Since that time I haven't put down my needles and have gone from following patterns to creating my own.

What other crafts are you into?

Crochet has to be my favourite at the moment with knitting a close second. I also love working on macrame projects and have just discovered punch needle which i am really enjoying learning. I have also done a bit of weaving before and tried my hand at spinning my own yarn. Basically, if it involves yarn I am sure to like it!

What's your favourite thing you have made?

My favourite item that I made was a mermaid blanket for my niece, Bella. I gave her the blanket last Christmas and she uses it all the time. It took me a long time to knit but it was worth it once I saw how happy she was.

Where do you find your inspiration?

I find inspiration everywhere! Sometimes as soon as I see the yarn I know what I need to make with it and sometimes I have to play around a bit first to find the right stitches to use. I love to look at the latest catwalks to look for colour combinations and trends that come through but i also find inspiration from everything around me.

What is next for you?

I have lots of exciting projects coming up which i can't wait to share with everyone. Make sure you follow Knitcraft to keep up to date with the latest patterns and projects.
