Step 1

If you're making your own template, find a circular object with roughly a 10cm diameter. Draw around it on a piece of paper. Use a ruler to mark 2.5cm above the circle edge on one side and square off the sides at the widest 10cm point then join the top with the 2.5cm mark. Cut this template out.

Step 2

Use the template to draw around and cut out two pieces of fabric. You may want to play with your pattern placement.

Step 3

Fold down the top straight edge of one piece by 1.5cm and press. Then repeat to create a rolled hem. With it still pressed and folded, mark the bottom of the seam and then un fold to mark the pressed line above that. You can repeat on your other piece if you want to.

Step 4

Place your pieces right sides together and pin. Sew around the outer edges leaving the top open and not sewing the 1.5cm gaps between your marker pins.

Step 5

Trim your seam allowances by half and cut small triangles or slits into the seam allowance, towards your sewn line, this will help shape the curve.

Step 6

You can use a zig zag stitch to finish and neaten the edges of your seam allowance if you want to.

Step 7

Fold down the top along the pressed lines you created in step 3. Press again and pin in place if you want to.

Step 8

Sew this rolled hem around the top from the inside. This will help fit it under your machine.

Step 9

Turn the right way around, press. Get the 2mm cord and cut a length that measures 4 times the width of your purse. Attach a safety pin to one end.

Step 12

Trim the ends of the cord to neaten. Try to make sure they're even.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Really cute and simple! I didn’t buy the exact supplies it recommended but used my own fabric and chord, and while the end result was pretty it didn’t pull together well, and the knots of the chord kept getting undone. In the end I found it a fun project but if your looking for a really useful and practical result maybe try something else.
