Step 1

Begin by trimming your fabrics to size, you will need:

2x 6” squares of outer fabric

3" x 2” piece of outer fabric

2x 6” squares of lining fabric

2x 6” squares of single sided fusible Foam stabiliser

Then, fold the long edges of the strip of outer fabric to the centre, then fold in half and press. Top stitch along each side.

Step 2
Fuse foam stabiliser to the wrong sides of the outer squares. Draw diagonal line, 1” apart in two ways across the fabric pieces.

Step 3
Sew across the lines.

Step 4
Sew a piece of outer fabric to each side of the zip, right sides together (with the teeth of the zip facing the patterned side of the fabric).

Step 5
Fold the tab in half, and sew facing inwards to one side of the zip.

Step 6
Sew the lining squares to the opposite sides of the zip (sandwiching the zip in the centre of the outer and lining fabrics). Press the fabrics away from the zip, top stitch along each side of the zip. Trim the ends of the zip.

Step 7
Fold the fabric pieces over so they are right sides together, sew along each end, leaving a turning gap in the lining side of about 3”.

Step 8
Open the zip. Pull open the bottom end of the pouch so that the centre seams and zip align, sew straight across through all layers.

Step 9
With the remaining sides, pull the side seams away from each other so that the lining sides and outer sides match, sew straight across.

Step 10
To complete the pouch, turn the right side out and sew the turning gap closed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great idea, poor instructions I used up fabric scraps bought as a prospective quilting project, so my outer pieces are different colours. This was made for keeping my sewing clips in, and it works beautifully but could have done with another tab on the other side to help close the zip. Step 3 into 4 should tell you to sew the zip inside a sandwich of the inner and outer (zip teeth facing the outer fabric). These instructions are hopeless for beginner or novice sewers like me, I was completely lost and had to revert to a YouTube tutorial on another channel to figure out what to do. There's also no instructions in how to handle the zip in the final sew through. I folded and sewed with hope that I'd done the right thing. I did, but don't ask me what I did! It probably doesn't matter, but I don't know and these instructions didn't help.
