Smooth and sharp
These needles are being used to hand sew English paper piece patchwork. The eyes are big enough to thread easily and they are sharp and smooth enough to pass through several layers of fabric without force.

Large eyed needles
They might be meant for darning but I use them for general embroidery as they have large eyes which means I can see to thread them!
