Good not great
Being one of the popular pattern brands out there I expected it to be easy to use this pattern. The instructions are not that easy to understand for a beginner but with the help of a teacher/more experienced sewer it's fine. I found the sizing was very small - I usually wear a 6 or 8 UK but on this I was a 12. Make sure you check closely and buy the right amount of fabric.

Great first pattern
Our 13 year old wanted to sew a skirt and this pattern is proving to be easy for her to follow without too much help!

Nice simple starter pattern
Taking advantage of the half price offer I purchased a simple skirt pattern, plus some cotton lawn fabric.
Simplicity Learn to Sew 2314 has a great range of sizes from a size 6 to size 18, and the tissue paper pattern is great quality, so could be reused time and again when you fancy making another skirt. There is a choice of 3 lengths to make, I chose the middle knee length size.
The simple instructions are very comprehensive, my advice is always read the back of the packet for advice of fabric and notions, even if you aren't new to sewing. This pattern only requires a zip and fastener, so not expensive to have a lovely finished skirt.
It took me a good hour to measure, then cut and sew the skirt. I used a patterned fabric, but just about any fabric would be suitable for this pattern. I left the skirt to hang overnight, then finished off hemming in the morning.
I now have a pretty light weight summer skirt that I really enjoyed making and plan to make another longer length with a lace overlay for an occasion skirt.

Good, easy to follow and flattering too!
This was my first ever attempt at making anything with a sewing machine and I found it fairly easy to follow (although had to google some of the sewing jargon!). It is also much more flattering than it looks in the picture! I made length B.

Okay
A little bit confusing for a beginner and the stencils are really thin paper not a fan. The designs are okay though

instructions look easy to follow
My 5*rating is based only on the instructions within the pack as I've not yet attempted to make any of the skirts. I've not done any dressmaking since leaving school many years ago and bought this pattern basically as an introduction to dressmaking. Having read the instructions they seem very easy to follow giving step by step instructions, complete with diagrams and I'm looking forward to taking up dressmaking again.

Great pattern to learn
Pretty good pattern for an older newbie like me to learn with. Always wanted to make my own clothes and this pattern explains the basics. Excellent choice to make a simple skirt. Very happy with product.
