Great for colouring buttercream
Used Wilton Black food colouring to colour my buttercream. Did not need to use too much colouring to get my desired dark black colour. The key is to add coco powder to the buttercream first to tint the buttercream slightly before adding the black food colouring.

Really vivid colour
I love the concentration of the pigment, much stronger than liquid colour. However, I made a big Pyrex bowl of BLACK royal icing, and I got it to a dark grey, for a small bowl I would have only needed half, so I should have bought two. But it is always this way with black. The other colours such as orange only needed a drop from the end of a toothpick to dye it.

Grey not black
I bought this item with the intention of making black icing. After adding well over the prescribed amount of dye to the icing it still remained a dark grey colour. This worked out okay for the design given our theme, but can’t recommend if it is jet black icing you are after.

Black icing colour.
Brilliant item. Reasonably priced and does everything i needed it to do. Coloured my fondant for my Halloween cake and was able to mix with water to make a paint and as it is a powder, i can dust areas for shadowing. Love it. Best purchace.

This product is brilliant
I am making a wedding cake and am deciding which type of icing to use. The black paste is wonderful and stays jet black even when using it in a butter icing.
