Women's Institute Grey Premium Acrylic Yarn 100g

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product I needed to knit a 1940’s style sleeveless top for my 10 year old grandson for a school project where he had to dress up as a wartime evacuee I found this wool to be ideal colour wise and although I could not find a 1940’s pattern I used a pattern from Hobbycraft for a sleeveless waistcoat for a young child and adjusted it to make the sleeveless top. My grandson was so pleased with the outcome and he looked the part at school, complete with gasmask box his daddy made him. I felt the wool was appropriate to as it was Women’s Institute Yarn which fitted the era.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value I love this yarn. This is the first time I’ve used this for a project and I can’t fault it. The colour is perfect and the quality of the yarn is better than some of the more well known brands. I definitely plan on buying this again in other colours for other projects.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great yarn, but frustrating at times! I brought this yarn as it felt so lovely in the shop. I’ve made a few baby blankets with it which have held up amazingly. My only issue with this yarn, is that with every ball I’ve used there are always different colour fibres spun in with the grey strand. This particular ball I’ve been using has white and black fibres spun in with it and it is so tedious to have to sit and pick them out! Hopefully this is something the factory can rectify as this really is great yarn, it’s just frustrating to have to pick out different colour fibres every 10 minutes

Rated 5 out of 5 by from FANTASTIC yarn, my new Go-to, bargain price I bought this yarn online, trusting the reviews as obviously I couldn't do a 'squeeze test'. Very pleased I bought it. I've tried many different brands of DK and I find this of a very high quality. It's so soft, with no knots or splitting. Before I bought this yarn, I read the reviews and some reviewers had questioned the thickness of it. I, too, could see a very subtle difference, when comparing with other DK brands. I bought this yarn for a granny square afghan I have been making. I've crocheted tens of squares with a target pattern, with many colour changes and 4 or 5 different DK brands. I wanted a calmer colour to connect them all together. So each 'target' will be squared off with two rounds of the WI grey. I had already squared off half of the targets with a different brand of Dk, so was slightly concerned they wouldn't all fit together, the WI yarn being slightly thicker. So I have done some comparison photos. The WI yarn makes a square only very slightly bigger than the other squares with other DK brands. If butted up together on one corner and 2 sides, the WI square is approx 5 mm larger on the other two sides. You can see this in my photo (with the wiggly white pen!!) With my type of project, that's no issue at all. Although I could always remedy it when blocking, if required. Also, I only had to crochet 2 rows with the WI yarn - if I had had to add more rows to each square, the difference in measurements would obviously increase too and might be more difficult to correct. But if your project is just using the WI brand throughout, you probably won't have any problems either. If it's for clothing, I guess you may need to make a different size. If unsure, personally I would make a tension square first in the WI yarn, then in a different brand of DK. Then you will have an idea of an estimated finished size and the difference in yarns. So that to me is the only possible 'con' that I can think of for this product. But I would still give it 10/10, as its 'pros' far outweigh the one con! This will now be my go-to DK yarn. I don't know what exactly makes a yarn lovely to work with, but this yarn has it. Hands down the best yarn I have ever worked with. Thank you so much! Lastly, it seems permanently on a 3 for 2...which is AMAZING! Please don't ever stop doing this offer, Hobbycraft! (And more colours, too, PLEASE!)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice wool at a great price but... I've been using the Women's Institute to make a number of scarves. It's a pretty nice quality, particularly at it's 3 for 2 price offer. However I've noticed a problem with a few of the balls (yellow in particular) that there are breakages in the thread that have simply been tied together in a knot. While this isn't a big deal as I just have to cut out the chunk and knit the new segment back in ages, it is a bit of a pain - particularly as I have extra tails to go weave back in.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Grey Dk wool I love this grey dk wool, it’s so soft, washes well in the machine. I have just crocheted a lovely Afghan throw, the wool seems to go a long way, as in I only used 11 balls to complete my project. I’m very pleased with the result. I also find that it doesn’t split, when working with it. And such a good selection of colours to choose from, although I wish they did it in a mustard colour. Great wool, great value for money, especially when it’s on offer 3 for 2 .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product is excellent value Excellent yarn, extremely good value as it is three balls for the price of two. There are no knots halfway through ball, which is not usually the case. Soft wool making it easy to use , I am crocheting with this wool and it has made working my pattern a pleasure I would recommend this wool. There is a good choice of colours and my choice was exactly what I needed also a percentage of the sale goes to the WI which is also helping a lot more groups.
