Airfix Quickbuild Spitfire Model Kit

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My 8 year old son chose this model with £10 pocket money, great gift idea for children who enjoy building toys A popular series with my little boy. This spitfire model had great detail & seemed good quality. It was also robust enough to play with, a brilliant alternative present idea for a child who likes lego & building toys.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Second time lucky My son was very excited about this kit which we bought to complete a themed project at school about the Biggles books he is reading. Sadly the first kit had incorrect pieces - one missing with a duplicate of a different piece. We exchanged the first kit for a second, which was all correct and he enjoyed building the spitfire relatively easily, which looks great.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A few minutes of fun with the kids I bought the kit to interest my son in something that is both fun to build and play with, but probably needed to be a bit older to appreciate it more. To prevent small bits going missing, I also glue it together to stop it falling into pieces never to be seen again. The model goes together nicely enough using a 'lego brick' retention method but assembles into a pre-coloured model of a plan. The coloured plastic doesn't quite look as good as a painted item, but is commendable in concept. The only indication once assembled of this construction is the glazed canopy, where instead of a cockpit or pilot, the internal 'brick' structure of the canopy is apparent whilst spoils the illusion somewhat. The undercarriage is modeled retracted which means for displaying, one must rely on the stand included, but this stand was broken in a matter of minutes. The propeller followed soon after and has had to be glued solidly in place, though clearly it is being used rather more robustly than intended. The main let down though was the decals which are printed on clear vinyl without any location features, and too large to comfortably sit atop the aircraft and adhere which leads to the inevitable pealing of the stickers, even when they have been placed in exactly the right place. This is annoying and could be better thought out, but nevertheless my son is still enjoying playing with the model as a toy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to make, looks great! I made this with my 6 year old son. The build process was pretty straightforward which enabled him to be actively involved rather than just watch me make it for him. The individual parts are a good size which is ideal for a young person’s hands. The lack of painting required also means the final product looks great and saves potentially making an awful mess!
