How to Crochet a Scarf
Just started to crochet and looking for a simple project to get started? This pattern is perfect for practising your half treble skills and working in a straight line.
Using WI Soft and Chunky, this scarf hooks up quickly to help you wrap up in style in no time. Finish the project off with a contrast border stitch to really make your scarf stand out.

WI Soft and Chunky in Pink (yarn A) x 3
WI Soft and Chunky in Steel Blue (yarn B) x 1
10mm hook
Darning needle
Scissors
Abbreviations (UK terms)
Ch- chain
St(s)- stitch(es)
Htr – half treble
Sp – space
Dc – double crochet
Ss – slip stitch
Rep – repeat
RS/WS - right side / wrong side
Special st
Spike st – Instead of working a dc into the row you are working on, insert your hook into the row below and pull up the stitch to your current row to make an elongated stitch.
Patterns notes
Tension – 8sts and 6 rows on 10mm hook working htr st
Measurements – approx. 25cm wide and 150cm long
Using yarn A, ch22.
Row 1: 1htr into 3rd ch from hook, 1htr to end, turn. (20sts)
Row 2: 2ch (does not count as st here and throughout), 1htr in each st to end, turn.
Rep row 2 until work measures 150cm ending with a WS row.
Fasten off.
Border
Using yarn B, with RS facing, join to corner and work along the short edge
Rnd 1: 1ch, *(1spike st into the row below, 1dc) to corner, 2dc into corner sp, 2dc, (1 spike st into the row below, 2dc) along length of scarf to corner, 2dc into corner sp; rep from * once more, join with a ss to first st.
Fasten off.
