Celebrate St Andrew’s Day by hooking up your very own Loch Ness Monster. This amigurumi crochet character is perfect for adding a touch of fun to your room and will be loved all year round.

Body

Using Knitcraft Tiny Friends in Lime, start with a magic ring and work in a spiral.

Round 1. Work 6dc into a magic ring (6)

Round 2. [2dc in each st] 6 times (12)

Round 3. [1dc, 2dc in next st] 6 times (18)

Round 4. [2dc, 2dc in next st] 6 times (24)

Round 5. [3dc, 2dc in next st] 6 times (30)

Round 6. [4dc, 2dc in next st] 6 times (36)

Round 7. [5dc, 2dc in next st] 6 times (42)

Round 8. [6dc, 2dc in next st] 6 times (48)

Round 9 - 14. Dc in each st for 6 rnds (48)

Round 15. 1dc in the next 12 sts, skip the next 24 sts and attach your yarn to the opposite side of the body with a dc, dc in the next 11 sts (24) 

Round 16. [3dc, 2dc in next st] 6 times (30)

Round 17 - 20. Dc in each st for 4 rnds (30)

Before we start shaping the neck, check that your last stitch of the previous round is central to the body, if not, add or remove an additional dc.

Start stuffing the body firmly with toy stuffing and continue to stuff throughout this section.

If you’d like to add an additional weight to your Loch Ness Monster, you can now add a mixture of toy stuffing and weighted beads/baking beads.

Round 47. Working in BLO, [4dc, dc2tog] 6 times (30)

Finish stuffing the body.

Round 49. [1dc, dc2tog] 6 times (12)

Round 50. [dc2tog] 6 times (6)

Tie off and weave yarn end through the front loops of the remaining stitches.

Pull to close and weave in yarn ends.

Head

Using Knitcraft Tiny Friends in Lime, hold the body upside down, insert your hook into the first stitch left over from rnd 15 of the body.

Round 16. [3dc, 2dc in next st] 6 times (30)

Attach your yarn to the other side of the head with a dc, this will now be the first st of the rnd. 

Round 17. Dc in each st around (30)

Insert safety eyes between rnds 11 - 12 on each side of the head.

Round 18. 12dc, [2dc in next st] 6 times, 12dc (36) 

Round 19 - 20. Dc in each st for 2 rnds (36)

Start stuffing the head firmly and continue to stuff throughout this section.

Round 21. [4dc, dc2tog] 6 times (30)

Round 22. Dc in each st around (30)

Round 23. [3dc, dc2tog] 6 times (24)

Round 24. Dc in each st around (24)

Round 25. [2dc, dc2tog] 6 times (18)

Finish stuffing the head.

Tie off and weave yarn end through the front loops of the remaining stitches.

Pull to close and weave in yarn end. 

You will notice there is a small gap between the head and the body, with a tapestry needle take a 20cm length of lime yarn and sew this gap together. 

Middle Section

With Knitcraft Tiny Friends in Lime, start with a magic ring and work in a spiral.

Round 1. Work 6dc into a magic ring (6)

Round 3. [1dc, 2dc in next st] 6 times (18)

Round 4. [2dc, 2dc in next st] 6 times (24)

Round 7 - 20. Dc in each st for 14 rnds (30)

Stuff firmly with toy stuffing.

Tie off.

Repeat rnds 1 - 20 for the second part but do not tie off. We’ll now join the two sections together.

Round 21. Join your second section to the first through a st on the first section, [8dc, dc2tog] 3 times, join your first section to the second through the next st [8dc, dc2tog] 3 times (54)

Hat Bobble

With Knitcraft Tiny Friends in Yellow, start with a magic ring and work in a spiral.

Round 1. Work 6dc into magic ring (6)

Round 2 - 3. Dc in each st for 2 rnds.

Do not stuff the hat bobble.

Tie off and weave yarn end through the front loops of the remaining stitches.

Pull to close.

Sew the bobble to the top of the hat and weave in yarn end.

The hat will have a sloped effect, ensure that the hat slopes downwards before sewing.

Sew the hat to the top of the head between rnds 2 - 9 at a slight angle and weave in yarn ends.
