How to make

You will also need:

* Cricut Design Space app installed on a laptop, PC, Tablet or mobile device

Step 1

Grab your supplies, then open Cricut Design Space and click 'new' to create your project. Measure your chalkboard so you know what size to create your design. You'll want your design to be roughly 1.5 - 2” smaller than the width of your blackboard.

Step 2

You can create your design using the shape and text tools in Design Space. You'll need to create the following (dimensions are based on the blackboard used for this project and will need to be scaled based on your blackboard size).

- 1 rectangle for the 'Stay Home Cinemas' banner (roughly 10” x 2”)

- 2 rectangles for the 'Now Showing' banner (rectangle 1 – 6” x 2”, rectangle 2 – 10” x 2”

- 6 rectangles for the lines (10” x 0.3”)

- 25 stars of varying sizes

Step 3

Select both of the large yellow rectangles and click "Weld" to merge these into one shape.

Step 4

Click on "Text", select your font (we chose Avenida) and enter your wording. Place the text over your large rectangles.

Add small stars to either end of the rectangle using the "Shape" tool.

Step 5

Once you have your wording in place, it's time to use the "Slice" tool to cut the text out of the rectangle shapes.

Select the rectangle and the text, then click slice. You can delete the text from the layers panel to the right as you won't need this.

Step 6

If you'd like to add a video camera to the bottom, click on 'images' and search for 'projector'. Select the projector image and insert it onto your canvas. Change the colour and resize/flip as desired using the tools in Design Space.

Step 7

Once you're happy with your design, click "Make It" and follow the prompts on Design Space to set up the cutting mats and select your cut material, and begin the cut.

Step 8

Using your weeding tool, weed out the pieces of vinyl that aren't needed so that you're left with your design.

Step 9

Once you've weeded all pieces, it's time to start applying your vinyl. To do this, you'll need to lay transfer tape on top of your vinyl design, use the scraper tool to adhere it and then remove the backing paper from your vinyl. You can then transfer your design onto your chalkboard.

Step 10

Add your finishing touches by repeating the steps above to apply the projector and star elements of your design.

Step 11

The blackboard is now movie night ready – showtime!
