Tool Guide

Decoupage Paper: You can use Decopatch paper across a range of surfaces to add bold and bright designs that make every project unique.

Mache Bases: Mache offers a super-absorbent surface that can hold a range of craft mediums, including glue and paint – making it perfect for decoupage designs.

Decopatch Glue: Decopatch glue is an exceptionally versatile adhesive, designed to work perfectly with decoupage paper. The glossy glue will leave your designs with a lustrous finish.

Bristle Brush: These brushes are ideal for applying varnishes and adhesives to mache designs, allowing you to bring out the shape and contours of your base.

Beginner Technique

Step 1: Tear up your chosen decoupage papers into ½ inch pieces. It is best to tear instead of cut with scissors as it creates a softer line and therefore a more blended finished piece.

Step 2: Use the Decopatch glue with the Decopatch brushes to paint a layer of glue onto the mache base. Then, place down a piece of prepared decoupage paper and add another layer of Decopatch glue over the top.

Step 3: Repeat, layering each piece of decoupage paper over the edge of the last to create a seamless covering.

FAQs

Q - Can I use other paper or tissue paper?

Decoupage paper has been designed to be super flexible and thin, yet strong. Other papers may work, but the quality of materials used will be reflected in the quality of the final outcome.

Q - How do I wash the Decopatch glue off of the brushes?

Decopatch glue is water-based, so simply wash in warm water.

Q - Do I need to prime the surface before adding paper? If so, what with?

For lighter coloured papers it may well be worth priming your surface. Use a white gesso primer such as the Decopatch White Gesso Primer to ensure the brightest colours on your finished piece.

Q - Is decoupage suitable for children?

Yes, with supervision. Decopatch glue is non-toxic and water-based.
