Get Started In Latch Hook

Tool Guide

To get started in latch hook you will need the following tools and materials.

Latch Hook Tool: This will make attaching the yarn to your canvas simple and easy to do.

Canvas: Latch Hook canvases comes in different sizes and the one you will need will depend on the yarn you are choosing to use. The thicker the yarn, the bigger the holes in the canvas will need to be.

Yarn: If you are looking to make a project with a uniform look, you will want to use the same weight of yarn throughout. For this you can use pre-cut lengths or regular yarn and cut the lengths yourself. If you are looking to create more texture, you can include lots of different yarn weights and textures.

Cardboard: When you are using balls of yarn, you will need to cut multiple strands at the same length. It is handy to have a range of cardboard cut to different sizes.

Chart: If you are working using a kit, you might have a chart that you need to follow. Always work from the bottom of the chart starting in the left or right-hand corner. Work each row in full before moving to the next row up.

Scissors: Use sharp scissors to cut the yarn and embroidery scissors to tidy up the project. It’s also handy to have a spare of craft scissors to cut your cardboard templates.

Tapestry Needle: You will need a tapestry needle to help finish off your project.

Masking Tape: You can add this to the edges of your canvas while you work to stop the fabric catching on you.

Weights: These will help keep your project in place as you work on it. Anything heavy will do!
