Head

Using Blue Yarn. Start with a magic ring and work in a spiral.

 

Round 1. Work 6dc into a magic ring (6)

Round 2. [2dc in each st] 6 times (12)

Round 3. [1dc, 2dc in next st] 6 times (18)

Round 4. [2dc, 2dc in next st] 6 times (24)

Round 5. [3dc, 2dc in next st] 6 times (30)

Round 6 - 9. Dc in each st for 4 rnds (30)

Round 10. 9dc, [1dc, dc2tog] 4 times, 9dc (26)

Round 11. Dc in each st around (26)

Cheeks (Make 2)

Using Pink Yarn.

Start with a magic ring and work in a spiral.

Round 1. Work 6dc into a magic ring (6)

Tie off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Pin and sew the cheeks between rnds 17 - 20 of the head and weave in yarn ends.

Eyebrows (Make 2)

Using Yellow Yarn.

Row 1. Ch5, starting in the second chain from the hook, [sl st in next st, ch3, sl st into first chain of the ch3] 3 times, sl st in final stitch.

Tie off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Pin and sew the eyebrows on a slight curve between rnds 16 - 20.

Weave in any remaining yarn ends.

Whiskers

Using Yellow Yarn.

Insert the hook into the side of the head between rnds 10 - 11 and pull up a loop.

Row 1. Ch28, starting in the second chain from the hook, sl st in every st down the chain (27)

Sl st back into the same stitch on the head and tie off.

Repeat on the opposite side of the head and weave in yarn ends.

Nostrils (Make 2)

Using Blue Yarn.

Row 1. Ch4, starting in the second chain from the hook, 1dc, 2htr in the next st, 1dc (4)

Tie off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Pin and sew the nostrils between rnds 6 -7 of the head, approximately 8 stitches apart. 

Weave in yarn ends.

Horns

Short Horns (Make 2)
Using Yellow Yarn.
Start with a magic ring and work in a spiral.
Round 1. Work 6dc into a magic ring (6)
Round 2 - 3. Dc in each st for 2 rnds (6)
Tie off and leave a tail for sewing. Do not stuff.

Long Horns (Make 2)
Using Yellow Yarn.
Start with a magic ring and work in a spiral.
Round 1. Work 6dc into a magic ring (6)
Round 2 - 9. Dc in each st for 8 rnds (6)
Stuff the horns lightly.
Tie off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Pin and sew the short horns to the long horns between rnds 3 - 5 and weave in yarn ends.
Pin and sew the long horns between rnds 24 - 27 of the head, approximately 4 - 5 stitches apart.
Weave in any remaining yarn ends.

Body

Using Blue Yarn.

Start with a magic ring and work in a spiral.

Row 7. Working in BLO, dc in every stitch (10)

Row 8 - 12. Dc in each st for 5 rows, ch1 and turn at the end of each row (10)

Row 13. Working in BLO, dc in every stitch (10)

Row 14 - 18. Dc in each st for 5 rows, ch1 and turn at the end of each row (10)

Row 19. Working in BLO, dc in every stitch (10)

Row 20 - 24. Dc in each st for 5 rows, ch1 and turn at the end of each row (10)

Pin and sew the stomach patch to the body along the underside of the body and weave in any yarn ends.

With the head facing forwards, pin and sew the body to the head between rnds 14 - 25 of the head.

Weave in any remaining yarn ends. 

Scales (Make 4)

Using Blue Yarn.

Do not count turning chains as a stitch.

Row 1. Ch2, starting in the second chain from the hook, 2dc in next st, ch1 and turn (2)

Row 2. [2dc in each st] 2 times (4)

Row 3. 2dc in next st, 2dc, 2dc in next st (6)

Row 4. 2dc in next st, 4dc, 2dc in next st (8)

Row 5 - 8. Dc in each st for 4 rows (8)

Change to light blue yarn.

Row 9. Ch1 (do not turn), starting in the same stitch, dc in the stitches around the edge of the scale, slst into first st of row 8 (do not count as a stitch) (15)

Tie off and leave a tail for sewing.

Curve the scales slightly and pin and sew two scales to each side of the head between rnds 24 - 27.

Weave in any yarn ends.

Back Legs (Make 2)

Using Blue Yarn.

Start with a magic ring and work in a spiral.

Round 1. Work 6dc into a magic ring (6)

Round 2. [2dc in each st] 6 times (12)

Round 3. [1dc, 2dc in next st] 6 times (18)

Round 4 - 7. Dc in each st for 4 rnds (18)

Round 8. [dc2tog] 3 times, 12dc (15)

Round 9. [dc2tog] 3 times, 9dc (12) Stuff the top section up to rnd 9 lightly.

Round 10 - 12. Dc in each st for 3 rnds (12)

Round 13. [2dc in each st] 3 times, 9dc (15)

Round 14. 7dc, [dc2tog] 3 times, 2dc (12)

Start stuffing the leg firmly from rnd 9 onwards.

Round 15 - 16. Dc in each st for 2 rnds (12)

Tie off and weave yarn end through the front loops of the remaining stitches.

Pull to close.

With your tapestry needle, weave your yarn end from the top of the leg, out between rnds 6 - 7, your yarn tail will be used for sewing.

Back Leg Toes

Using Blue Yarn.

With the top of the back leg facing you, insert your hook into a loop at the front of the leg left over from rnd 17 and pull up a loop.

Row 1. [Ch6, starting in the second chain from the hook, sl st in each stitch down the chain, sl st back into the next chain of the original starting chain] 3 times (15) 

Tie off and weave in yarn ends from the toes. 

Front Legs (Make 2)

Using Blue Yarn.

Start with a magic ring and work in a spiral.

Round 1. Work 6dc into a magic ring (6)

Round 2. [1dc, 2dc in next st] 3 times (9)

Round 3. Working in BLO, dc in each st around (9)

Round 4 - 7. Dc in each st for 4 rnds (9)

Round 8. [dc2tog] 2 times, 5dc (7)

Round 9. 3dc, [2dc in next st] 2 times, 2dc (9)

Round 10 - 17. Dc in each st for 8 rnds (9)

Stuff the legs firmly.

Tie off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Front Leg Toes

Using Blue Yarn.

With the opening of the front leg facing you, insert your hook into a loop at the front of the leg left over from rnd 3 and pull up a loop.

Row 1. [Ch6, starting in the second chain from the hook, sl st in each stitch down the chain, sl st back into the next chain of the original starting chain] 3 times (15)

Tie off and weave in yarn ends. 

Leg Assembly

Pin the back legs to the body between rnds 22 - 32 (counting from the tip of the tail).

To sew the legs to the body, you’ll need to sew around the outside of the tail following the curve of the leg.

Once you’ve sewn around the outside of the leg, sew the underside of the leg to the body. 

Weave in any remaining yarn ends.

Pin and sew the front legs to the body between rnds 54 - 58 (counting from the tip of the tail). 

Spikes

Using Light Blue Yarn.

Row 1. Ch61, starting in the second chain from the hook [1dc, 1tr, ch2, sl st into first st of the ch2, 1tr in same st, 1dc] 20 times.

Tie off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Pin and sew the spikes along the spine of your dragon.

Weave in any remaining yarn ends. 

Tail

Using Blue Yarn. Do not count turning chains as a stitch.

Row 1. Ch2, starting in the second chain from the hook, 2dc in next st, ch1 and turn (2)

Row 2. [2dc in each st] 2 times, ch1 and turn (4)

Row 3. 2dc in next st, 2dc, 2dc in next st, ch1 and turn (6)

Row 4. 2dc in next st, 4dc, 2dc in next st, ch1 and turn (8)

Row 5 - 8. Dc in each st for 4 rows, ch1 and turn at the end of each row (8)

Row 9. Dc2tog, 4dc, dc2tog, ch1 and turn (6)

Row 10. Dc2tog, 2dc, dc2tog, ch1 and turn (4)

Row 11. [dc2tog] 2 times, ch1 and turn (2)

Row 12. Dc2tog (1)

Change to Light Blue Yarn.

Row 13. Ch1 (do not turn), starting in the same stitch, dc in the stitches around the edge of the tail.

Once you reach the top stitch, dc, ch2 and sl st into first chain of the ch2 (don’t count as a st), 1dc into the same stitch on the tail.

Then dc down the other side of the tail, slst into st left over from rnd 12 (don’t count as a stitch) (24)

Tie off and leave a tail for sewing.

Pin and sew the tail between rnds 1 - 2 of the body.

Weave in yarn ends.
