How to make

You WIll Also Need

Iron Pillow or Cushion Inner
Step 1

Measure your pillow or cushion inner before measuring and cutting strips of coordinating fabrics in various widths. Make sure that they are long enough to cover your cushion width. There are no right or wrong measurements to your strips – just whatever you feel looks 'right' or what you have for each one. Cut enough fabric to cover the whole width and length of your inner taking seam allowances into consideration. I 'played' around with each one by just laying them out together to see what I thought worked.

Step 2

Sew each strip together using a 1cm seam allowance.

Step 3

Cut two back pieces out for your cushion at the same height as your cushion inner plus 2cm to take into consideration seam allowances and at 2/3 the width of the cushion – plus 3cm to take into consideration seam allowances. Turn over one of your width edges by 1cm and press into place, and then turn over by 1cm again to enclose the raw edge and press into place. Sew using a straight running stitch to secure. Repeat with the 2nd back piece.

Step 4

Lay down your front striped piece and line up your back pieces on to this, right sides together and pin into position.

Step 5

Using a 1cm seam allowance sew all the way around the edge to construct your cover. Secure your stitches.

Step 6

Turn out the right way, press if required and insert your pillow or cushion inner. Et voila! Decorative pillow: done!
