How to Make a Heat Embossed Star Christmas Card

Level
Intermediate
Time
1 hour
Budget
10 - 30

If you're looking to take stamped card designs to the next level, heat embossing is a must! All you need is an embossing heat tool, embossing powders of your choosing and an embossing ink pad.

The embossing powders are set in place using the heat tool, and you can watch the powder turn into a liquid and the particles merging before your very eyes! Once the powder has melted, it's then time to turn the heat tool off and allow the powder to cool, which will leave your stamped design with a raised, glitzy finish.

You can also use clear embossing powder to create a spot varnish effect – the possibilities are endless!

How to make

You will also need:

* Spare white card

Step 1

Cut a piece of card to cover an A6 card blank from spare white card, or from another card blank.

Trim 6mm from the one long side, and one short side to create a smaller panel for the card front.

Use the top sentiment from the stamp set to stamp the centre of the card panel with black archival ink. Clean the stamp and repeat, using the embossing ink pad. Quickly cover with clear embossing powder, shake off the excess, and set using a heat tool.

Step 2

Cut a small piece of spare white card to use as a mask, covering the bottom two stars on the star cluster stamp. Ink the stamp and position the largest star at the far left of the sentiment. Cover with tinsel gold powder, shake off excess, and set with a heat tool.

Step 3

Stamp another group of stars next to the first group, above the sentiment in a similar way.

Repeat this process again using the stamp towards the bottom right-hand corner. Also, add two more tiny stars by masking the stamp as before.

Stamp another group of stars onto spare white card as before and cut out the three largest ones.

Step 4

With the fold at the top, fix the stamped panel onto the front of the card blank using 3D foam pads, along with the three cut-out stars onto the front panel. Position these by changing the direction of the pattern to add extra interest.

Step 5

Use a pair of tweezers to add seven gold adhesive gems in and around the stars to complete the card.
