Making a star garland is easy to do without any fancy equipment. All it takes is some card, a pair of scissors and some origami-style folding.

How to make

Step 1

Download the free star template.

Depending on your printer, you might be able to print directly onto the back of your cardstock for you to then cut out the stars with a pair of scissors - proceed to step three.

If this is not possible, print the template onto normal printer paper and cut out the stars to use as templates - proceed to step two.

Step 2

Trace around the star templates onto the back of the cardstock and cut using a pair of scissors.

Step 3

Score the star along the centre line and repeat for each tip of the star until you have five lines scored.

Step 4

To create the three dimensional effect the star will need to be folded.

Start by folding the star in half along the points (with the gold side facing out) and open out again

Step 5

Repeat for all of the points, opening the star back out after each fold.

Step 6

Mountain fold into the centre. This means folding into the short edge of the star points. This can be a little tricky but use the fold lines you've already made to help you. Release the fold.

Repeat all the way around the star.

Step 7

And you're done!

You can create a chain of stars or hang them individually and create a celestial backdrop using cotton or invisible thread.
