Step 1

Place double sided tape over your foam board along the edges and in the middle. Attach the mount board on top. This is to give your backing board more strength once the cups are added later on.

Step 2

If you can't find paper cups in the colours you want, you can cover them with lightweight card. We used mint cups for the tree and covered cups with gold card for the base.

To cover the cups, attach a strip of double sided tape to the rim of the cup. Measure out the length and height you need to cover your cup completely and stick it to the tape to cover the cup. Use another strip of double sided tape to attach the card to itself down the length.

You will need 21 cups for the tree and 4 for the base.

Step 3

Next, position your cups on the backing board, leaving enough space for the star at the top. If you are using the Cricut project provided, you will need 5" for the star.

When happy with the positioning, hot glue the cups onto the backing board by applying the glue to the bottom rim of the cup and firmly pushing onto the backing board.

Step 4

Cut out squares of crepe or tissue paper that are about 5cm bigger than the diameter of the top of the cups.

Put your treats inside and secure with rubber bands around the rim.

Step 5

To recreate the design we've made, follow the link to Cricut Design Space and cut out the premade numbers and star for the top of the tree out of card. https://design.cricut.com/landing/project-detail/64f8820b7d0a4e294a006fcc

Alternatively, you can use adhesive numbers and either cut your own star with scissors or use a pre-cut one.

Attach the numbers to the crepe/tissue paper using glue dots. Use a hot glue to attach the star to the mount board.

Step 6

Finally decorate your tree with a shiny star on top, pom poms and wooden glittery stars dotted around.

Step 7
Your advent calendar is now finished! To reuse next year, simply re-fill, cover with more tissue paper and add new numbers.
