How to Make a Vibrant Kids Play Tent

Start by putting the tent up and lining the base with sheets of newspaper to prevent staining. Collapse it again and lay it out so that all the bottom edges are accessible. Use the templates provided to cut the various shapes from scraps of card.

Lay the triangle template on the teepee, with the edge lined up with the bottom of the tent, next to the door opening. Draw around it with pencil. Repeat all the way around the bottom edge.

Paint the triangles red and leave to dry. You can make a start on the pom poms and tassels (steps 6 onwards) whilst the paint is drying.

Measure and mark in pencil 7cm from the top of each triangle. Draw around the zig zag template on the tent at these marks, connecting it together to make one long pattern. Work all the way around the tent. Paint the zig zag yellow and leave to dry.

In the same way, draw around the circle template between the triangles and the zig zags and paint blue. Draw a 2cm wide strip 7cm above the zig zags and paint grey. Finally, add mint green semi circles 7cm above the strip.

To make the pom poms, use the 5.5cm wide pom pom maker and wrap the wool around it on both sides until it's nice and full.

Close the pom pom maker and cut through the wool. Knot tightly around the middle with more wool before removing from the pom pom maker.

Trim the pom pom so it's neat and repeat to make six of each colour.

Thread the pom poms onto 1.6m of blue thread to make a garland.

To make the tassels, wrap wool around a book approximately 30 times.

Gently remove from the book and tie another piece of wool around the loop, about 1.5cm from the top. Secure with a knot, then cut off the loop at the bottom.

Repeat to make two tassels of each colour.

Put the tent up and tie the pom pom garland around the top, so that it is resting on the top hoop. Trim the excess thread and spread the pom poms out evenly around the hoop.

With white sewing thread, sew each pom pom onto the edge of the doors, so that they are staggered on either side.
