How to Make a Viking Helmet

In a large bowl, whisk a cup of flour with two cups of water to a smooth paste. Tear up the newspaper into small pieces and place in the bowl.

Inflate the balloon and place on the small bowl. Start applying the now tacky newspaper on to the balloon until half the surface is covered. Leave to dry for a few hours. Apply a second layer, leave to dry, and continue this process until you have pasted four to five layers of newspaper.

Once completely dry, pop the balloon with a pin and remove. Cut a neat edge with scissors. Paint the surface with brown acrylic paint and leave to dry. Apply a second coat of paint, and leave to dry.

Download the horn template and print on paper. Cut out and use to make two cardboard horns. Paint each side with two to three coats of cream paint. When dry, cut two slits in the side of the helmet and slot the horns inside. Add a little glue to hold them in place.

Stick a strip of narrow silver duct tape across the top of the helmet, and wide silver duct tape around the bottom edge, tucking it underneath.

Punch or cut some small circles out of the silver paper, and stick to the tape with glue.
