Step 1
Take a lump of clay about half the size of an egg and roll it into a ball.

Step 2
Place your thumb on the clay and press down slightly off centre.

Step 3
Press an egg into the dent made by your thumb. Keep pressing until you have an indent in your clay that will support the egg without you holding it. Make sure you don't press too far – you don't want the base of your egg cup to be too thin or have a hole in it! You should end up with one half slightly taller than the other (this will be the head of your bunny)

Step 4
Use your thumb to smooth the edges of the egg cup shape with water. If the clay has started to crack, you can use a mix of clay and water to build the shape back up.

Step 5
For the tail, roll a small ball of clay. Cut a small length of wood and use it to make a hole where the tail will go on your egg cup shape. Place one end into the tail and use water to make the tail stick to the body as you attach it.

Step 6
For the arms, roll two balls of clay slightly larger than the size of the tail.

Step 7
Roll the balls shapes into a sausage shapes, then pinch one end to create an arm.

Step 8
Attach the arms to either side of the main body, using plenty of water to make sure they stick. The pinched ends of the arms should face the tail.

Step 9
Smooth the ends of the arms to the body using a little bit of water.

Step 10
For the ears, roll two more balls of clay.

Step 11
Roll the balls into sausage shapes, then flatten them to create a flat ear shape. Don't flatten the ears too much, as they will need to be thick enough to attach them to the body with a length of wood. You can create a 3D ear shape by indenting along the middle of the shape with your thumb.

Step-12
Like with the tail, use a small length of wood to create two holes in the top of the head where the ears will go. Stick one end of the wood into each ear and place into each hole, making sure the base of the ear is wet enough to stick to the body on contact.

Step 13
Smooth the ears with your finger to make sure they didn't get misshapen on contact. You can also smooth the base of the ear to the body to create a seamless look and add structural strength!

Step 14
Add texture to the tail using the end of a cocktail stick or a craft knife. You can add texture to the rest of the body too if you want!

Step 15
Create a tiny flat triangle of clay and stick it right to the front of the face to act as a nose! The shape will stick best if water is applied.

Step 16
Leave the bunny to dry. This will probably take between 24-48 hours, depending on the weight and depth of the clay. Keep an eye on the base of the bunny – you might want to prop the bunny at an angle to allow it to dry faster.

Step 17
Once you are happy that your bunny is dry, you can start to paint it! The simplest way to do this is to cover the entire shape in one base colour. You will probably need at least two coats, making sure the previous layer of paint is completely dry before applying the next one. Once your bunny is a solid colour, you can start to add large blocks of colour like the face and egg indent in the colour of your choice.

Step 18
Using a pink colour, paint long oval shapes on the centre of the ears to create the ear detail. You can also use pink to paint the nose!

Step 19
Using either a paint brush or a small piece of sponge, paint pink circles either side of the nose to look like rosy cheeks! (I made my own round sponge shape by cutting a length of a washing sponge and rolling it into a cylinder. I wrapped washi tape around it to keep it in place, then dabbed the round end in paint!)

Step 20
Use black paint to create small black circles above the cheeks. These will be the eyes! You can use a paint pen or permanent marker for precision if you prefer.

Step-21
The rest of the detailing is up to you! Use a mix of colours to paint a mouth under the nose, whiskers, spots, fur or any other texture you want. If you painted the inside of the egg cup shape in a contrasting colour, you can add your own Easter pattern for a nice finishing touch!
