How to make

For the Doughnuts

225g plain flour

2tsp baking powder

1tsp salt

175g caster sugar

175ml milk

2 eggs, beaten

30g melted butter

1 tsp vanilla extract

Step-1
Preheat the oven to 160°C/Gas 3. Coat the cavities of the doughnut pan with Wilton Cake Release using a pastry brush.
Step-2
Take a large bowl, and sift the flour, baking powder and salt into it. Add the sugar and stir to combine.
Step-3
In a separate bowl, whisk the milk, beaten egg, melted butter and extracts together and add this to the dry ingredients, mixing thoroughly.
Step-4
Using a teaspoon, fill each of the doughnut cups around ¾ full with the batter. (Do not overfill otherwise the doughnuts won't have holes!)
Step-5
Place in the oven and bake for about 8 minutes, or until firm, and springy. Cool slightly. Turn the doughnuts out and cool completely. Repeat to make 12 doughnuts.
Step-6

Make the legs! Melt the milk chocolate in the microwave, then either use a candy mould (I used the Wilton Dessert Accents mould) or hand pipe thick wavy lines, about 2 -3 inches long onto parchment paper for the legs. Remember you need 8 legs for each spider. Chill in the fridge (keep the remaining chocolate in the piping bag for later).

Step-7
Melt the Candy Melts (each of 3 colours in a separate bowl) in the microwave until soft and runny (30 second blasts and then stir in between). Add in a tablespoon at a time of vegetable oil until a soft dropping consistency is achieved, this will help with coating the doughnuts.
Step-8
Dip the Doughnuts. Using the angled palette knife, lower the doughnuts one at a time into the melted candy, turn the doughnut over and ensure completely coated, then gently lift out with the palette knife underneath, give a few taps on the side of bowl to remove excess candy, and place for a minute or two on the drip tray.
Step-9
Once the excess has dripped off, sprinkle the top of the doughnut with the coloured sprinkles/sugars. Lift off the drip tray and place on the parchment covered board to dry. Repeat using all three colours of candy until all the doughnuts are used.
Step-10

Attach the legs. Re-melt the remaining milk chocolate n the piping bag, pipe 4 dots of candy on both sides of the first spider and gently attached the legs, holding in place for a couple of seconds until the candy adheres.

Step-11
Pipe two dots on the front of the spider and attached the Candy Eyeballs.
Step-12
Repeat for all the doughnuts.
