This simple craft allows kids to get creative and hands-on in your Diwali preparations.

You can use the paper lamps to decorate windowsills, create bunting by making several paper lights and tying them together with string, or why not use the lamps as a Diwali card?

You Will Need
* Plain round white paper plates

* Paint or Crayons

* Paper glue

* Coloured paper in red, yellow and orange

* Glitter & any other embellishments, such as gems or sequins

 

How to make

Step 1
Fold a paper plate in half to create a crescent shape.

Step 2
Decorate your plate by painting it or colouring it in with crayons. If you are painting, allow the paint to dry before you start to decorate (for speed, paint just 1 layer).

Step 3
Draw a flame shape onto each sheet of coloured paper in 3 different sizes, with red being the largest shape, then orange and yellow to provide an ombre flame. Or use the templates on pages 168 and 169 to trace them onto your paper.

Step 4
Glue the flame layers together starting with the largest and layer them so that all three can be seen. Then, glue this along the straight side in the middle of the plate so it looks like it is flickering.

Step 5
Finish by sticking on any glitter and other embellishments.
