Not quite right for a beginner
This is the first hoop I’ve bought to start cross stitch and for beginners out there I wouldn’t recommend. I got splinters straight away and found it difficult to tension the fabric enough. Whilst the size meant I could complete all of my pattern without moving the ring, I don’t think it helped with getting the fabric tight enough and was a bit cumbersome for me. I replaced with a smaller plastic “flexible wood grain embroidery hoop”, also from hobby craft and this is much better!

Acceptable for the price
The hoop is nice and smooth with no splinters, and an even shape around. However the screw to tension it gets stuck - the metal bracket on mine is at an awkward angle - so I can't get the fabric properly taught. I've worked around it by pulling my fabric over and pinning it, but it's not ideal.

Good quality product
Really good embroidery hoop, the screw is easy to loosen and tighten, but doesn’t come loose while your working. The hoop itself is very light and comfortable to work with, absolutely love it.
