Step 1
Begin by cutting 54 x 150cm lengths of Retwisst yarn. Attach each length onto the dowel using the Lark’s Head Knot.
Step 2

Download the chart here

Now start to follow the chart working from the top left corner. You will use the Horizontal Double Half Hitch knot throughout and will work around 2 fillers cords. You will work odd rows from left to right and even rows from right to left.

Begin by winding off a small ball of the Knitcraft Return of the Mac in ecru. Bring the yarn around the back of the first 2 filler cords with the end on your left-hand side. Wrap the long end around the filler cords and pull tight directly underneath the larks head knot.

Repeat once more to secure.

Continue working along the row in the same way making sure the knots are directly below the Lark’s Head knot on each filler string.

Continue to follow the chart working the Horizontal Double Half Hitch throughout.

When you need to change colour, attach the yarn as you did at the start and leave the unused yarn at the back. Work the amount of knots needed in the new colour and then drop the yarn to the back of the work and pick up the next colour.

Top tip

If you are working more than 4 knots in a row of one colour, catch the unused yarn by holding it at the back of the work with the filler strings and work the knot around both.  Alternatively, you can create multiple bundles of yarn for different sections. For examples, for the pumpkins I had 3 balls of terracotta for each pumpkin and then I carried the ecru along the back.

When you run out of yarn, rejoin a new bundle and work over the ends of the used string to neaten up the back. Alternatively, you can leave the ends and sew them in at the end.

Step 3

When you have completed the chart, it is now time to create the tassels.

Begin by cutting 18 x 50cm lengths in Knitcraft Return of the Mac in Terracotta.

Take 6 filler strings and tie a gathering knot directly under the last row of Horizontal Double Half Hitch knots. Make the gathering knot approx. 2cm long.

Repeat across the row, you will end up with 18 gathering knots.

Brush out the tassels and cut to the desired length.

Sew in and trim the ends on the back of the work.
