It's never been easier to create custom, one-of-a-kind projects thanks to the Glowforge laser printer. There's no end to the materials that can be cut – from paper to wood, acrylic or leather, the sky's the limit!

This natural leather bookmark is super-easy to make with the Glowforge Pro or Glowforge Plus. It’s the perfect gift for literary enthusiasts! Personalise with a quote of your choice and then add a trio of tassels to make picking up where the lucky recipient left off even easier.

How to make

Step 1

Switch the Glowforge on and connect to the machine on your desktop or laptop.

Place the Glowforge proofgrade natural leather onto the bed of the machine with the QR code facing up.

Start a new project within the design software and add in the your chosen bookmark shape – we’ve used a banner shape, and resize as desired.

Add a circle to the centre top of the bookmark shape – this will be cut out to allow the tassels to be attached.

Add your chosen quote – we’ve used the Bold 'Stardos Stencil' font. Position the text onto the bookmark, once happy with the position, drag a selection box over the entire design and ‘Group’ all the elements.

Add any additional design features around the text.

Once all the elements are in position drag another selection box over all the elements and ‘Group’ everything once more.

Step 2

Within each of the design elements down the left-hand side of the screen set which elements you would like to cut and engrave. For our bookmark design we set the bookmark banner shape and circle to ‘Cut’, and then the text and star shapes to ‘Engrave’.

As the material that is being used is a Glowforge proofgrade material the machine will read the QR code and automatically know the settings that are needed to create the design.

Select ‘Print’, then press the flashing go button on the machine when prompted. The machine will then start work on your design.

Step 3

While the machine is working, a progress pop-up will appear on screen featuring a count-down timer of how long is left until completion.

Once complete wait for a prompt to display on screen before lifting the machine lid and removing the item/s.

Step 4
Remove the protective film that covers the right-side of the natural leather.
Step 5
Create three tassels from your chosen embroidery threads.
Step 6
Secure the tassels using the hole at the top of the bookmark.
