How to Bake Modern Watercolour Tree Biscuits

* 200g/8oz softened butter
* 150g/6oz caster sugar
* 2 egg yolks
* 400g/14oz plain flour
* 1 level tsp mixed spice
* 1 level tsp ground cinnamon
* Grated zest of 1 orange
* 2-4 tbsp milk
To Decorate
* White Ready to Roll Icing
* Gold Edible Powder
* Edible Glue
* Gel Food Colouring - Various Colours
* Vodka (To Mix with Food Colouring)

* Unused Toothbrush
Preheat oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas 4 and line 2 baking trays with greaseproof paper.
Put the butter and sugar into a bowl and beat together until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg yolk. Sieve in the flour and spices, add the orange zest and add in enough milk to make a fairly soft dough.
Roll out the dough approximately 5mm thick on a floured surface and cut out tree shapes with the cutter.
Bake for 15 minutes or until the biscuits are a pale-golden brown. Transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.
A clean, new toothbrush is great for flicking colour onto your painted designs – drag your finger or thumb over the bristles for a fine speckled effect.
Your watercolour biscuits are now finished!
