How to Decorate a Mache Beach Hut
There's nothing more quintessential of an English summer than the classic beach hut, so when we saw these mache beach hut blanks, we knew what had to be done!

How to make
Shake the white Chalky Paint or stir it before use. Paint a thin layer of white on the beach hut. Paint horizontally along the front and from back to front along the roof. Use a large brush and a smaller square brush to paint under the eaves. Leave to dry or dry with a hairdryer.
Do two more layers, drying in between. The beach hut should then be uniformly white. If the finish is uneven, paint on another layer.
Using a large brush, use the 'Escape' paint to paint the roof, using long brush strokes from back to front. The paint should be thick enough to cover the white and not drip.
Paint the front of the roof using a smaller brush. Make sure that you pain both sides and also under the rest of the roof. Paint around the bottom of the beach hut as well. Leave to dry.
Using sand paper, sand back the roof working from front to back to distress it. Be very careful not to sand too hard or the mache will show through. Sand the front of the roof and also around the base of the beach hut.
Mix up a lighter paint colour by adding the two colours that you have been using together. Using a square brush, paint the horizontal beams.
Push a small large headed nail through the wooden bead. Make a hole in the 'door handle' of the beach hut. Use the All Purpose Glue to attach the bead to the door handle.
You will need to work out the length of the bunting. Put embroidery thread against the beach hut to do this. Add a couple of centimetres and cut the thread.
Dip the thread into PVA, and wipe off the excess. Put the thread onto a piece of plastic/cellophane in a curve as shown. Once it is dry, stick the thread in place on the beach hut using the All Purpose Glue.
Work out the size you want the flags to be. Two of the triangle flags make a diamond shape if put together. You will need to draw five of these diamonds. Using the blue chalky paint, draw patterns on the diamonds.
Cut these out and fold them in half. Place them on the embroidery thread evenly. One by one, use the glue stick to stick the two sides of the flags together attaching them to the embroidery thread.
