Step 1

First make the toadstool – cut the toilet roll down to 6cm and paint it white.

Then cut a 10cm diameter circle of red paper, and cut a slit from the edge to the middle. Overlap the edges to create a pointed top for the toadstool, and glue in place.

Step 2
Next, glue some white paper spots to the top, cut out with a circular craft punch. Then stick the top to the bottom.

Step 3
To make the leaves, cut out small leaf shapes in green felt and glue them to the ends of the green pipe cleaners.

Step 4

Next, make the pinwheels for the body of the snail – first measure and cut out a yellow strip of paper measuring 26 x 12cm.

Score at 1cm intervals along the length of the strip, and then fold backwards and forwards to cerate pleats.

Repeat with 24 x 10cm strip of pink paper, and a 22 x 8cm strip of blue paper.

Step 5
Tie some clear thread tightly around the middles of the folded strips, and open out the folds. Glue the edges together, to create the pinwheels.

Step 6
Now assemble the snail – first draw and cut out the body piece in red paper, and stick the pinwheels in place. Cut and bend a small piece of orange pipe cleaner and glue some wiggle eyes to the ends. Glue to the head of the snail.

Step 7
Now you are ready to decorate the hat – glue the snail to one side, and the toadstool to the top. Add the felt and pipe cleaner leaves around the snail and toadstool.

Step 8
Add a few speckled eggs beneath the toadstool, and stick some felt daisies and bees around the hat.

Step 9
If you wish to add more to your hat, why not make some extra pinwheels and turn them into flowers by adding a punched paper circle in the middle of each.
