How to make
You Will Need:
Seven inch round cake (five inches tall)
200 grams yellow Candy Melts
200 grams dark cocoa Candy Melts
One tub Betty Crocker vanilla frosting 400 grams
Mauve / purple food colour
Three chocolate flakes
Mini Eggs – available in store
Craft Essentials
PME plain edge side scraper
Cake turntable (optional)
Vegetable oil
Colour the frosting a pale shade of violet. Cover the whole cake in the frosting and use the edge scraper to ensure a smooth finish. Put the cake in the fridge for one hour for the frosting to harden.
Top Tip!…Use a cake turntable to help you get the smooth finish on your frosting.
Melt the yellow Candy Melts in the microwave. Stir in a teaspoon of vegetable oil at a time until you achieve a smooth and thick, but runny consistency. Use a teaspoon to drizzle the Candy Melts down the side of the cake, working your way around the top edge of the cake.
Top Tip!…It's important to get the consistency and the temperature of the Candy Melts just right – not enough oil and it will be too thick to run down the cake. Too warm and it will melt the cake frosting!
Repeat this process with the dark cocoa Candy Melts, and then fill in the middle of the top of the cake.
Break up the chocolate flakes lengthwise and arrange the pieces in a nest shape on top of the cake.
Fill the nest with chocolate Mini Eggs to finish.
