You will also need:

* Parasol base

* Bamboo stick (or broom handle)

* Chicken wire

* Cable ties

Step 1

Begin by taking your parasol base and adding a pole or stick to it to achieve the height you want your tower to be. Remember that if it's too tall, it can be top heavy and may need securing to a wall or fence.

We used a pole topped with a bamboo stick, for a snug fit, but you could also use a broom handle and then cable tie both poles together.

Ensure your base is in the correct spot that you want it to stay as the Christmas tower can be tricky to move once created.

Step 2

Cut a few lengths of chicken wire and wrap them in sections around the pole, from the bottom right up to the top. Cable tie them so that they can't come undone.

Top Tip: Squash the chicken wire down slightly to achieve a wider shape.

Step 3

Start applying the fresh foliage, working up from the bottom of the foliage tower to the top. We'd suggest foraging for this foliage, and using a mix of small branches twigs, and leafy stems, such as fir, buried ivy and Compressus.

Poke each stem through a hole in the chicken wire – you shouldn't need to fix them in place, the more the tower fills up, the more secure the foliage will become.

Step 4

Begin adding in your faux Christmas stems, making sure they are evenly spaced out. Again, these should slot in neatly without needing to be secured in place.

Use a good mixture of stems and include ones with pine cones, berries and poinsettias for colour and texture. Don't forget you can also use garlands and cut them into sections to add into the foliage.

Step 5

Lastly, thread some baubles onto florist wire and nestle them in among the foliage for added interest.

Step 6

Complete the scene by hanging wreaths on your door and wrapping faux presents, using the same colours as in your Christmas tower.
