How to make

Step 1

Grate around 100g of soap base using a fine grater.
Bring 400ml of water to boil, then turn down to a mild simmer.
Add in the grated soap base and mix until fully melted.
Turn off the heat and continue stirring.
Add in two teaspoons of glycerine and a few drops of your chosen fragrance.
You may need to add some more water until the mixture reaches a gloopy consistency.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn't work Attempt to make this liquid soap following these instructions resulted in 4 times the amount of water to actually make it liquid. I wanted 500ml of soap and I've now got 2 litres. Equal water to base soap was not enough water to actually make it liquid, doubled the water, added the required glycerin it ended up a weird foam/ jelly texture, still not liquid, doubled the water again, withheld the glycerine and it's liquid, still thicker than wanted, but it will move through a pump.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Seriously...... These ratios are a complete joke! As another has already said - 500ml water to 250g soap base (to fill roughly x 250ml bottles) is way out. I have now filled 6 x 250ml bottles and having to order more in because I still have as much again left - not cost effective when you don't want to supply the whole street. I only wanted to do 2 bottles of the same fragrance to see how it went but it's like The Blob - the stuff is never ending. Does nobody actually check these ratios? It's trial and error as to how much soap base to water you actually need. I'd start with 100g soap base and 150ml water and take it from there and just maybe 1 teaspoon of glycerine to start with. You can't really go wrong once you get going - add a bit soap base, add a bit of water but wait until the solution has cooled till you see if it's the right consistency. You'll never get it like shop bought, so don't stress on that part. Check the "gloopiness"; if it dispenses from the pump without being too runny, you're on the right track.
