For a unique twist on glass painting or traditional ideas for decorating glass jars, POSCA pens offer a fantastic alternative!

Spruce up the classic containers with a crafty flourish, utilising the precision and control that the POSCA paint markers offer while enjoying the quality finish of traditional paint.

Glass painting is a breeze with POSCA paint markers. You can work directly onto the glass and you don't get that drip that is so common with glass paints.

Water-based and non-toxic, these POSCA paint pens dry opaque with a solid colour on the glass.

How to make

Step 1

It's best to work on this jar one panel at a time, working away from you while the paint pen dries. Start with drawing in a sprig and a peony to anchor the design. To draw your sprigs, make small curved lines. Add leaves by making a little loop at the top of the line. Then make side-on figures on eight along the line, with the middle of the '8' falling in the centre of the line as shown. Now colour in.

For the red flower, first draw a circle. Add curves to the sides of your circle, then colour in. For further depth, make some simple 'filler' shapes at the top of the flower. For the stems, make a dot under your peony shape and make a line. Draw long leaf shapes at the base of the line and wrap more leaves around the stem.

Step 2

To create the yellow flower, draw a curved line. Then add circles along the line and fill in. Draw a 'v' shape at the top of the line. Then use your yellow POSCA to draw lines for the flowers as shown.

Step 3

Fill in the panel with sprigs and the red and yellow flowers. Now draw in little blue flowers in the spaces remaining.

Step 4

Repeat steps 1-3 over all the panels. Once the drawings dry, use the white POSCA 1MR to add highlights to your flowers and sprigs. To make your design permanent, bake in the oven at 160°C for 45 minutes, then spray with clear varnish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great idea I haven't bought this yet but after reading the instructions they are definitely on my list to buy next week. A great idea to do with my used glass jars instead of recycling them. Would make unique pretty gifts and not break the bank.
