Step 1

Step 2
Take the hanging tab and press 1cm down either end, the press both sides in 1cm. Using the zig zag stitch on a sewing machine, stitch along the middle. Press well and set aside.
Step 3
Gather a selection of yarns in a variety of colours and textures. Using a heat erasable pen, roughly mark on when you would like the fringing to be.
Step 4
Take your first yarn, cut lengths of yarn the same length and place so that the top line is in the centre. Once you have filled the width of the stocking, stitch down in the centre - along the pen line (or as close as you can). Back stitch over to secure.
Step 5
Repeat for the next yarn colour.
Step 6
Continue adding the yarn, mixing and matching different colours and textures after each other.
Step 7
Once all of the fringing is stitched down, carefully trim each layer to the desired length and set aside.
Step 8
To make the tassels, use a piece of scrap cardboard. Wrap the yarn around the cardboard until you have a sizable amount. Cut a length and thread underneath the top of the yarn and tie a knot. Cut the opposite end of the yarn to release the cardboard, take another length of yarn and wrap around the top of the thread, several times and tie tightly in a knot. Trim the tassel as needed.
Step 9
Make as many tassels as you desire, make coordinating pom poms using a pom pom maker and thread the tassel through the middle of them to join. Set aside.
Step 10
Take your fringed stocking front and one of the other stocking pieces you cut earlier. Place the front directly on top of the second piece. Then take the third piece and place on top, pin together so that the fringing is in the middle - right sides together.
Step 11
Stitch the stocking together using a 1cm seam allowance.

Step 12
Turn through and press the seams well. Overlock the top edge of the stocking - ensuring the two front pieces are together.
Step 13
Fold down 1cm from the top and press. Take your tassels and your hanger tab and pin to the right side of the stocking. Zig zag stitch the hem down, making sure to back stitch over the hanging tab section.
Step 14
Finally press well to remove any leftover pen markings.
