Step 2
To create your stocking, you will need to cut 4 pieces of fabric – two pieces which will be for the front and back of your stocking and two for the lining. Being mindful to cut your pieces in the right direction. You’ll also need to cut two pieces of wadding.

Step 3
To start place the two lining pieces right sides together, pin in place and sew around the edge with a 1cm seam allowance. Leaving the top of your stocking open and making sure to leave a gap along the bottle at least 4-5 inches wide. This gap is very important, so do not skip this part! You’ll use this gap to turn the stocking right side out at the end.
Step 4
Place the lining to the side for the time being. Next, take the front and back pieces and baste them onto the wadding. You can do this by either using pins or by using a spray adhesive such as 505 spray. I’d recommend using the spray over pins as it will make handling your stocking easier and reduce the fabric shifting.

Step 5
Once basted, it’s time to quilt! With this project you can have fun with any design you’d like including free motion quilting. To create a diamond quilted pattern using a dressmaking pencil mark a line from the top corner diagonally at a 45-degree angle. A quilting ruler will make this easier.
Step 6
Sew along the line you’ve marked. This line will help you create the rest of the pattern. From here mark and sew along lines an inch apart until you’ve covered the whole stocking.
Step 7
Repeat steps five and six only this time on the opposite side.

Step 8
Take a piece of natural coloured cotton fabric. Using a paintbrush and some fabric paint, paint your chosen letters and stamp them onto the fabric. Once dry use pinking scissors to cut around the name, making sure to leave enough space around it for stitching. The pinking scissors will also help to prevent fraying.
Step 9
Pin your name tag to the front of the stocking. Using a zigzag stitch, stitch the name tag in place.
Step 10
Take the front and back pieces and place right sides together, pin together. Sew around the whole stocking except for the top using a 1cm seam allowance. Trim the seams using pinking scissors to reduce bulk and help prevent fraying.
Step 11
Turn the stocking right side out and use something blunt like a knitting needle to make sure all the curves are turned out nicely. Now, take the lining you sewed together at the start (which should be sewed right sides together) Place the quilted stocking inside the lining. So, the quilted stocking and lining should be right sides together.
Step 12
To create a hanging loop. Cut a piece of fabric to the size of 2 inches x 6 inches. Fold this in half lengthways to create a crease in the middle. Open up again and fold the edges on both sides to meet the crease you just made. Fold in half again, this will enclose all of the raw edges. Top stitch on both sides of the loop to secure.
Step 13
Fold the loop strap in half. Place the folded strap so the loop is pointed down between the quilted stocking and the lining. Align the back of the stocking seam, the loop, and the back of the lining seam, and pin. Pin around the top of the stocking, matching seams and stitch around the top with a 1cm seam allowance. A top tip is to remove the free arm on your machine to make sewing easier.
Step 14
Once the top of the stocking Is sewn, you now need to find the gap in the lining that we left and pull the stocking through so the stocking is now the right side out.
Step 15
Find the hole in the lining again, and finger press the opening flat making sure the seam is folded inwards and there’s no raw edges. Pin in place and stitch the opening closed using an invisible/ladder stitch.

Step 16
Once the hole is stitched up the lining can be pushed inside the stocking. Press the circumference of the top of the stocking and topstitch around it using a 1 cm seam allowance.
Step 17
Lastly, it’s time to make some pom poms! Take your wool and use a pom pom maker to do this. Following the instructions on the box. You can make as many as you like. As an alternative you could also make tassels.

Step 18
Attach the pom poms to the strap and your stocking is complete!
