How to make

Step 1

Collect some different coloured and sized leaves and a small branch to hang them from. Thicker leaves are better as the thin ones will crumble more easily.

Lay your branch on a table and arrange your leaves as you would like to hang them from it. Think about scale – do you want them all to be a similar size, or do you want to vary them? Think about the colours and spreading them out or grouping them together. Think about height – do you want them all the same height, do you want just one leaf hanging from the branch or do you want several strung together?

Step 2
Tie your leaves to your branch with the twine. If the leaf has a stem, you can tie the twine around it. When you’re attaching twine to the bottom of a leaf, punch a hole in it so that you can tie a knot through it. A small blob of PVA glue on the knots should stop them from coming undone.
Step 3
Decorate your leaves with the white pen, you can use the downloadable pattern ideas page as a starting point. Think about spacing out the more complicated patterns and putting simpler ones in between them. Simple patterns are good for the more delicate leaves as they are fragile.

Step 4
When you’ve finished decorating your leaves, tie a length of cord slightly longer than your branch to each end of the branch and use it to hang your finished hanging on the wall.
