How to make

Step 1

Get a large piece of cardboard and draw out one butterfly wing with sections.

Ask an adult to use a craft knife to cut around the wing as well as cutting out the sections inside. Remember to leave the wing attached to the other half of the cardboard.

Step 2

Fold your cut out wing around the other side of the cardboard and trace around it. This is to make sure the wings are symmetrical.

Once you have done that, cut out the other wing and the sections inside.

Step 3

Turn the wings over and ask an adult to use a glue gun to stick your recycled wrappers down, covering the cut out sections.

Step 4
Cut 4 equal lengths of ribbon - each measuring 40cm.

Step 5

Using a glue gun, attach each piece as per the image. Two at the top of the wings, and two at the bottom.

Finally, use the ribbon to tie the wings on to your little ones!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great idea! I was looking at this guide and love this idea - very creative. My only thoughts are that when I want to make it with my Grandaugther, we will need bigger bits of coloured cellophane as sweet wrappers are not big enough for the holes, although I am sure you could glue some together which would look nice. Also, for eco reasons, it is not easy to obtain cellophane sweet wrappers anymore! I may try it with Tissue Paper - more eco friendly and bigger pieces available. Covered in PVA, it might work and become strong enough!
