Abbreviations:

ML = magic loop

ch = chain

ss = slip stitch

dc = double crochet

htr = half treble crochet

BPdc = back post double crochet

tr = treble crochet

Step-1
Sizing: This hat can be made in 3 sizes


SMALL = up to 54cm head circumference,


MEDIUM = up to 57cm head circumference,


LARGE = up to 60cm head circumference.

Step-2
Pattern notes: This pattern is worked in the round, there are 3 size options when you come to the brim follow the size you have chosen to make e.g. S(M/L). Always ss into top of 1st stitch in round to join unless the pattern specifies otherwise. You will need to use many balls of raffia, to join a new ball, start your stitch then add in your new ball to finish the stitch off the same as you would with changing colour.
Step-3
Round 1: ML, ch1, work 8 htr into the loop, close the loop and ss to top of 1st htr to join (8)


Round 2: ch1, 2htr into each st round, ss to join. (16)


Round 3: ch1, 2htr in first st, 1 htr in the next, repeat (2htr, 1htr) round, ss to join (24)

Step-4
Round 4: ch1, 2htr in first st, 1 htr in the next 2 sts, repeat (2htr, 1htr, 1htr) round, ss to join (32)


Round 5: ch1, 2htr in first st, 1 htr in the next 3 sts, repeat (2htr, 1htr, 1htr, 1htr) round, ss to join (40)

Round 12: turn, ss in each st round, cast off on last stitch, use darning needle to weave in the ends and join the round. Weave in all the ends.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun to make Easy and fun to make. Looks nice. I used almost seven balls of raffia to make the medium-sized hat. The finished hat differs slightly from the one in the picture: there is only one raised band going around, rather than two, which I actually prefer, so that worked out well.
