Get your home ready for Easter with this adorable wreath and matching garland. This crochet wreath was inspired by an Easter egg hunt and features cute chicks having a party as they find their chocolate eggs!

This is a great way to brighten up your home in time for the seasonal celebrations!

Note: Since the creation of this pattern, Ricorumi yarn has been discontinued. We recommend replacing it with similar colours from our Knitcraft Tiny Friends yarn range.

Pattern Notes
This pattern uses UK terminology throughout.
Work an even, fairly tight tension throughout.
All items are made using 3.5mm hook except for the Garland Cord which uses 6mm hook.
Work in continuous rounds without joining unless otherwise stated.
Use a stitch marker in the first st of the round to help keep track of rounds, move the marker up each round.
Finished size of the wreath measures approximately 41cm by 41cm
Garland approximately 150cm in length

Abbreviations
Blo - work into the back loop only
Ch - chain
Dc - double crochet
Dc2tog - work 2 double crochet together to decrease by 1 st
Dtr - double treble crochet
Htr - half treble crochet
Inc - work 2dc in next st to increase by 1 st
MR - magic ring/adjustable loop
Rep - repeat
Rev dc - reverse double crochet
Rnd/s - round/s
Sl st - slip stitch

Chicks: Step 1

Body (make 3)
With yarn C, make a MR
Rnd 1. 6dc in MR (6dc)
Rnd 2. [inc] 6times (12dc)
Rnd 3. [1dc, inc] 6times (18dc)
Rnd 4-7. 1dc in each st (18dc)
Insert safety eyes between Rnd5 and Rnd6, 6sts apart
Rnd 8. [2dc, inc] 6times (24dc)
Rnd 9. [3dc, inc] 6times (30dc)
Rnd 10-13. 1dc in each st (30dc)
Rnd 14. [3dc, dec] 6times (24dc)
Start to stuff with fibre filling
Rnd 15. [2dc, dec] 6times (18dc)
Rnd 16. [1dc, dec] 6times (12dc)
Rnd 17. [dec] 6times (6dc)
Fasten off and sew shut.

 

Wings (make 6)
With Yarn C, make a MR
Rnd 1: 6dc in MR. (6dc)
Rnd 2: 2dc in each st around. (12dc)
Rnd 3-4: 1dc in each st around.
Rnd 5: [2dc, dc2tog] 3 times. (9dc)
Rnd 6: [1dc, dc2tog] 3 times. (6dc)
Fasten off leaving a long tail to sew to the body. Sew one wing on each side of a body, positioned between Rnds 7 & 8.

 

Beak
With yarn J, make a MR
Rnd 1: 6dc in MR. (6dc)
Rnd 2: 1dc in each st around.
Fasten off leaving a long tail. Sew on to the face, positioned between the eyes.

Chicks: Step 2

Mini Rose
Using Yarn E, ch12.
Rnd 1: [4htr] in 2nd ch from hook, miss 1 ch, sl st in next ch, *miss 1 ch, [4htr] in next ch, miss 1 ch, sl st in next ch; rep from * 2 times.
Fasten off leaving a long tail.
Roll the rose from one end and stitch in place.

 

Leaves
With Yarn I, ch6.
Rnd 1: Sl st in first ch to form a ring, 6ch, sl st in same st as first sl st.
Fasten off leaving a long tail and sew to the rose. Then sew the rose to the head of one of your chicks.

 

Bow Tie
Using Yarn D, make a MR
Rnd 1: *2ch, 3tr in MR, 2ch, sl st in MR; rep from * once more.
Fasten off leaving a long tail to wrap yarn around the middle of the bow tie four times. Sew bow tie to the neck of one of your chicks.

 

Mini Party Hat
With Yarn F, make a MR.
Rnd 1: 6dc in MR. (6dc)
Rnd 2: 1dc in each st around.
Rnd 3: [1dc, inc] 3 times. (9dc)
Rnd 4: 1dc in each st around.
Rnd 5: [2dc, inc] 3 times. (12dc)
Rnd 6: 1dc in each st around.
Fasten off leaving a long tail to sew to the chick's head.
Using Yarn B, make a mini pompom and glue or sew to the top of the hat. Then sew the hat on top of your remaining chick's head.

Eggs

Make 8
Use Yarns C, D, E, F and H.
Play around with the colours when making them, the samples shown are made in single colours and in stripes.
With chosen yarn, make a MR
Rnd 1: 6dc in MR. (6dc)
Rnd 2: Inc in each st around. (12dc)
Rnd 3: 1dc in each st around.
Rnd 4: [1dc, inc] 6 times. (18dc)
Start to stuff with fibre filling.
Rnds 5-10. 1dc in each st around.
Rnd 11: [1dc, dc2tog] 6 times. (12dc)
Rnd 12: [Dc2tog] 6 times. (6dc)
Fasten off and sew shut.

Basket

Base
With Yarn K, make a MR.
Rnd 1: 6dc in MR. (6dc)
Rnd 2: 2dc in each st around. (12dc)
Rnd 3: [1dc, inc] 6 times. (18dc)
Rnd 4: [2dc, inc] 6 times. (24dc)
Rnd 5: [3dc, inc] 6 times. (30dc)
Rnd 6: [4dc, inc] 6 times. (36dc)
Rnd 7: [5dc, inc] 6 times. (42dc)
Rnd 8: 1dc blo in each st around.
Rnds 9-14: 1dc in each st around.
Rnd 15: Rev dc in each st around.
Fasten off and sew in ends.

 

Handle
With Yarn K, ch31.
Rnd 1: Sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1sl st in each of next 29 ch. (30sl st)
Fasten off leaving a long tail. Sew handle to basket.

Bunting

Flags (make three in each of Yarns C, D, E, F and H.)
With chosen yarn, 7ch.
Rnd 1: 1dc in 2nd ch from hook, 5dc, turn. (6dc)
Rnd 2: 1ch (does not count as a st), dc2tog, 4dc, turn. (5dc)
Rnd 3: 1ch, dc2tog, 3dc, turn. (4dc)
Rnd 4: 1ch, dc2tog, 2dc, turn. (3dc)
Rnd 5: 1ch, dc2tog, 1dc, turn. (2dc)
Rnd 6: Dc2tog. (1dc)
Fasten off. Sew in ends.

 

Bunting Cord
Lay flags in order.
With Yarn B, ch40, 6dc across top of first flag, [3ch, 6dc across top of next flag] rep across each flag to end, ch40.
Fasten off. Sew in ends.

Daisy (make 5)

With yarn J, make a MR.
Rnd 1: 6dc in MR. (6dc)
Rnd 2: 2dc in each st around. (12dc)
Change to yarn B.
Rnd 3: [5ch, 1dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1dc in each of next 3 ch, sl st in next dc] rep a further 11 times. (12 petals)
Fasten off. Sew in ends.

Rose (make 3)

With Yarn E, ch25.
Rnd 1: 1tr in 5th ch from hook (counts as 1tr + 2ch), *miss next ch, (1tr, 2ch, 1tr) in next ch; rep from * 9 more times, turn. (11 v-sts)
Rnd 2: 1ch, 6tr in first 2ch sp, [1dc between next 2 tr, 6tr in next 2ch-sp] around. (11 petals)
Fasten off leaving a long tail.
Roll rose from one end and stitch in place.
Sew in ends.

Daffodil (make 2)

Petals
With yarn C, make a MR.
Rnd 1: 6dc in MR. (6dc)
Rnd 2: 2dc in each st around. (12dc)
Rnd 3: [3dc, inc] 3 times. (15dc)
Rnd 4: [Sl st in next st, miss 1 st, 3ch, sl st in next st] around. (10sl st, 5ch-sps)
Rnd 5: *(2tr, 2dtr, 3ch, 2dtr, 2tr) in next ch-sp, sl st in each of next 2 sts; rep from * four more times.
Rnd 6: *2dc, 2htr in each of next 2 sts, (2tr, 3ch, 2tr) in next ch-sp, 2htr in each of next 2 sts, 2dc, 2sl st; rep from * four more times.
Fasten off. Sew in ends.

 

Trumpet
With yarn J, make a MR.
Rnd 1: 6dc in MR. (6dc)
Rnd 2: 2dc in each st around. (12dc)
Rnd 3: 1dc blo in each st around.
Rnds 4-8: 1dc in each st around.
Rnd 9: (1dc, 3ch, 1dc) in each st around.
Fasten off. Sew in ends.
Glue or sew petals to trumpet on each flower.

Butterfly (make 1)

Wings
With yarn F, make a MR.
Rnd 1: 6ch, work into ring 1trtr, 2dtr, 1tr, 2ch, sl st, 2ch, 1tr, 1dtr, 3ch, sl st, 3ch, 1dtr, 1tr, 2ch, sl st, 2ch, 1tr, 2dtr, 1trtr, 6ch, sl st.
Fasten off. Sew in ends.

 

Body
With yarn D, leaving a 1cm tail and knot at the end for first antenna, ch6.
Rnd 1: 1sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1sl st in each of next 4 ch.
Fasten off leaving a 1cm tail and knot at the end for second antenna.
Glue or sew body to wings.

Leaves

Small (make 14)
With yarn G, make a MR.
Rnd 1: 6dc in MR. (6dc)
Fasten off.

 

Large (make 22)
With yarn G, make a MR.
Rnd 1: 6dc in MR. (6dc)
Rnd 2: 2dc in each st around. (12dc)
Fasten off.
Using photo as a guide, fold leaves in half and glue around a length of floral wire.

 

Joined Leaves (make 2)
With yarn I, ch10.
Rnd 1: 1dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1dc, 1htr, 1tr, 1dtr, 1tr, 1htr, 1dc, 3dc in last ch. Work back along other side of foundation ch working 1dc, 1htr, 1tr, 1dtr, 1tr, 1htr, 2dc in last ch, sl st in first dc. (19)
Fasten off. Sew in ends.

 

Making up your wreath
Using photos as a guide, position flowers, leaves, chicks, basket, eggs and butterfly around the wreath. Glue in place once happy with positioning.

Garland

Cord
Using Knitcraft Return Of The Mac in Sage and 6mm hook, ch2
*Ch1, 1dc in 2nd st, 1ch in the next st . Repeat from * until the garland cord is approximately 150cm in length.

Decorations
Following the same patterns as above, make the following decorations:

6x Daisy
7x Rose
4x Daffodil
3x Butterfly
11x Small Leaves
4x Large Leaves


Making up your garland
Using the photo as a guide, position flowers, leaves and butterflies around garland then glue in place once happy with positioning.
