Learn how to use Derwent paint markers and a few items from your craft stash to create a beautiful series of bird canvases.

The pens are fantastic to draw with and are great for little details and quick mark making. The colours are lovely and vibrant! These work really well on canvas and would work well on thick art pad paper too. Once you've got your pen working, don't over shake or push down too many times as this may cause an ink blot.

How to make

Step 1

Search for a bird to draw online.

Faintly sketch out the outline of the bird.

Step 2

Choose the lightest colour that you'll be using and start mark making and mimicking that pattern of the feathers.

Next, choose the darker colours and add in the detail. Leave the darkest part, usually the eye, to last.

Step 3

Once finished, outline the entire shape with a chosen colour to finalise your illustration.
