How to make

You will also need:

1 m red felt (of 150 cm wide fabric) – available in store

30 cm white felt – available in store

an Iron

Step 1

Fold the length of red felt in half. This is to ensure both sides are even when you cut out the cloak.

Step 2

Follow the measurements on the pattern and use a lead pencil to draw the outline and hem allowances of your cloak directly on to the red felt. Hem allowances of 2.5cm at the base and sides and 5cm at the neck are included in these measurements.

Step 3

Cut out the cloak shape.

Step 4

Use an iron to press under the hem allowance on both sides of the cloak. Insert a strip of hemming web into the hem and press to bond the hem together.

Step 5

Make snips into the base hem allowance at intervals all along the hem. This allows easier pressing of a curved hem. Press the hem. Insert a strip of the hemming web into the hem and press to bond the hem together.

Step 6

Make a single snip into the neck hem allowance at the centre point. Press under the hem. Insert a strip of the hemming web into the hem along the edge, leaving a gap wide enough to thread ribbon through. Press to bond the hem together.

Step 7

Cut two 11 cm wide strips of white felt that are the same length as the cloak edges. The easiest way to do this is to lie your cloak onto the white felt and draw around the edge.

Step 8

Use hemming web to bond the white felt strips to the front edges of the cloak.

Step 9

Cut out a heart shaped template.

Step 10

Pin the paper template on to black felt and cut around the outer edge. Repeat ten times so that you have ten black felt heart shapes.

Step 11

Arrange the black felt hearts on to the white felt strips. When you are happy with their position, glue in place with a generous amount of fabric glue. Leave to dry.

Step 12

Thread the red ribbon through the neck seam. Press the completed Cloak.

Step 13

Complete the look with a black dress, crown and a sparkly wand.
