Abbreviations:

tr – Treble Crochet (US Double Crochet)

ch – Chain

ss – Slip Stitch

V – V-Stitch

mc – Magic Circle

st – Stitch

 

Pattern is written in UK terms.

Starting chain ALWAYS counts as a stitch.

 

The body of the bag is made entirely out of offset v-stitches, unless told otherwise you will always be working your stitch into the first tr you reach (the right hand side of the V).

 

You will be working in rounds until you reach the strap section of the pattern.

 

Special Stitches:

 

V-Stitch: (treble, chain 1, treble) into the same stitch.

 

Step-1
With (A) make a magic circle.
Step-2
Rnd 1. ch3, tr11, ss to top of ch3 (12). Rnd 2. ch3, 2tr in next 11 st, tr, ss to top of ch3 (24). Rnd 3. ch3, 2tr, *tr, 2tr, repeat from * around, ss to top of ch3 (36).
Step-3
Rnd 4. ch3, tr, 2tr, *tr2, 2tr, repeat from * around, ss to top of ch3 (48). Rnd 5. ch3, tr2, 2tr, *tr3, 2tr, repeat from * around, ss to top of ch3 (60). Rnd 6. ch3, tr3, 2 tr, *tr4, 2tr, repeat from * around, ss to top of ch3 (72).
Step-4
Rnd 7. ch3, tr4, 2tr, *tr5, 2tr, repeat from 8 around, ss to top of ch3 (84). The base of the bag in now finished, the next section is all worked in v-stitch (V).
Step-5
Rnd 8. ch4 (counts as tr + ch1), tr in same st, ch1, *skip 2 st, V in next st, ch1, repeat from * to end, ss to 3rd ch. Rnd 9. ch4, tr in same st, ch1, *skip ch1, nxt st & ch1, V in next st, ch1, repeat from * to end, ss to 3rd ch.
Step-6
Rnd 10-14 Repeat rnd 9. Change to colour (B) at the end of rnd 14. Rnd 15-17 Repeat rnd 9. Change to colour (A) at the end of rnd 17. Rnd 18 Repeat rnd 9. Change to colour (B).
Step-7
Rnd 19-25 Repeat rnd 9. You will now make the strap, turning your work at the end of each row.
Step-8
Row 26 ch4, *skip ch1, next st & ch1, V in next st, ch1, repeat from * 4 times, skip ch1, next st & ch1, tr in next st, turn. Row 27 ch4, *skip ch1, next st & ch1, V in next st, ch1, repeat from * 3 times, skip ch1, st, ch1 & next st, ss to 3rd ch of ch4, turn.
Step-9
Row 28 ch4, *skip ch1, next st & ch1, V in next st, ch1, skip next V, work a V into the ch1 space between central V's, ch1, skip next st & ch1, V in next st, ch1, skip next V and ss to 3rd ch of ch4, turn. Row 29 ch4, skip ch1, next st & ch1, V in next st, skip ch1 & next st, work a V into ch1 space, skip next st & ch1, V in next st, ch1, skip ch1 & next st, ss to 3rd ch of ch4, turn.
Step-10
Row 30 ch4, skip ch1, next st & ch1, V in next st, V into next ch1 space, skip next st, V, ch1, ss to 3rd ch of ch4, turn.
Step-11
Row 31-40 Repeat row 30, fasten off. Now you are going to work the other half of the strap. Lay the bag down with the the strap in the centre and facing the floor (see fig A.)

Step-12
Join yarn in right hand tr of V and then repeat from Row 26.
Step-13
At the end of Row 26 hold end together and ss across to join strap. Fasten off and weave in ends.
