Equipment

5mm hook, darning needle, 40cmx40cm cushion pad.

 

Tension

16 sts and 19 rows to 10cm using 5mm hook

 

Abbreviations (UK terms)

Ch – chain;

Dc- double crochet;

RS- right side

St- stitch

 

Notes

This pattern uses the tapestry crochet technique. The tapestry crochet technique means you carry the unused yarn in between your stitches as you go, creating a neat look on the front and back of your work. This technique is used for the chart sections within this pattern. 

When working from the chart, begin each row with a 1ch, work the appropriate row of the chart, turn.

When following the chart all odd numbered rows are worked right to left and all even number rows are worked left to right.

Cushion (make 2)

Using yarn A and 5mm hook ch 65.

Row 1(RS): 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1dc into each st, turn. (64 sts)

Rows 2-8: 1ch, 1dc into each st, turn.

Change to yarn B.

Rows 9-14: 1ch, 1dc into each st, turn.

Change to yarn C.

Rows 15-16: 1ch, 1dc into each st, turn.

Change to yarns D and E.

Rows 17-32: Work rows 1-16 of Chart A using tapestry crochet method, changing to yarns F and A on row 9 of the Chart.

Change to yarn C.

Rows 33-34: 1ch, 1dc into each st, turn.

Change to yarn F.

Rows 35-38: 1ch, 1dc into each st, turn.

Change to yarn E.

Rows 39-40: 1ch, 1dc into each st, turn.

Change to yarns B and D.

Rows 41-56: Work rows 1-16 of Chart B using tapestry crochet method, changing to yarns C and E on row 9 of Chart.

Change to yarn A.

Rows 57-58: 1ch, 1dc into each st, turn.

Change to yarn B.

Rows 59–62: 1ch, 1dc into each st, turn.

Change to yarns D and F.

Rows 63-70: work rows 1-8 of Chart C using tapestry crochet method.

Change to yarn C.

Rows 71-76: 1ch, 1dc into each st.

Fasten off.

 

Making up

With RS facing in, sew 3 edges of the cushion together using mattress st.

Turn cushion right side out and insert cushion pad.

Sew up the remaining side.
