Insert hook through front loop only of the next 2 stitches. Yarn round hook then pull through first 2 loops on hook. Yarn round hook again and pull through last 2 loops to complete decrease.

2 - Head & Body

Round 1: Using a 2.5mm hook and yarn A, make a magic loop. Ch1 (does not count as a st) 6dc into magic loop. (6 sts)

Round 2: [2dc in each st] 6 times. (12 sts)

Round 3: [1dc, 2dc in next st] 6 times. (18 sts)

Round 4: [2dc, 2dc in next st] 6 times. (24 sts)

Round 5: [3dc, 2dc in next st] 6 times. (30 sts)

Round 6: [4dc, 2dc in next st] 6 times. (36 sts)

Rounds 7-18: 1dc in each st for 12 rounds. (36 sts)

Change to yarn F.

Round 19: 1dc in each st.(36 sts)

Change to yarn B.

Round 20: 1dc in each st. (36 sts)

Insert the safety eyes between rounds 14 and 15 10 sts apart.

Change to yarn A.

Round 21: [5dc, 2dc in next st] 6 times. (42 sts)

Rounds 22-25: 1dc in each st for 4 rounds. (42 sts)

Start to add stuffing and continue to stuff as you go.

The Wings (make 2)

Round 1: Using a 2.5mm hook and yarn A, make a magic loop. Ch1 (does not count as a st) 6dc into magic loop. (6 sts)

Round 2: [2dc in each st] 6 times. (12 sts)

Round 3: [1dc, 2dc in next st] 6 times. (18 sts)

Round 4: [2dc, 2dc in next st] 6 times. (24 sts)

Round 5: [3dc, 2dc in next st] 6 times. (30 sts)

Round 6: [4dc, 2dc in next st] 6 times. (36 sts)

Round 7: [5dc, 2dc in next st] 6 times. (42 sts)

Fasten off leaving a long tail.

Now fold your circle in half to make a semi-circle. You now have 2 layers of stitches, 21 stitches on each side. The wings are not stuffed. Make sure your tail of grey yarn remains on the outside of the wing after folding.

Attach yarn G at the right hand side of your semi-circle. Using 2.5mm crochet hook, work in dc through both layers to close the wing. (21 sts)

Turn your work.

Row 2: [Ch 4, starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, ss in the next 2 st on the wing] 3 times.

Row 3: [Ch 3, starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, 2dc, ss in the next 2 st on the wing] 2 times.

Row 4: [Ch 2, starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, 1dc, ss in the next 2 st on the wing] 2 times.

Fasten off and weave in end.

The Beak

Round 1: Using a 2.5mm hook and yarn C, make a magic loop. Ch1 (does not count as a st) 4dc into magic loop. (4 sts)

Round 2: 1dc, dc2 in each of the next 2 st, 1dc. (6 sts)

Round 3: 2dc, dc2 in each of the next 2 st, 2dc. (8 sts)

Round 4: 3dc, dc2 in each of the next 2 st, 3dc. (10 sts)

Round 5: 4dc, dc2 in each of the next 2 st, 4dc. (12 sts)

Fasten off leaving a long tail.

With black yarn embroider a smile between rounds 3 and 4 over the lower half of the beak.

The Feet (make 2)

Round 1: Using a 2.5mm hook and yarn C, make a magic loop. Ch1 (does not count as a st) 8dc into magic loop. (8 sts)

Round 2: Ss in the next 2 st, ch 3, starting in the 2nd ch from your hook, 2dc, ss in the next st, [ss in the next st, ch4, starting in the 2nd ch from your hook, 3dc, ss in the next st] 3 times.

Fasten off leaving a long tail.

The Tail

Using a 2.5mm hook and yarn G, ch6, starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, dc5. Ch 8, starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, dc7. Ch 6, starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, dc5.

Round 1: Using a 2.5mm hook and yarn D, make a magic loop. Ch1 (does not count as a st) 8dc into magic loop. (8 sts)

Round 2: [2dc in each st] 8 times. (16 sts)

Round 3: [1dc, 2dc in next st] 8 times. (24 sts)

Round 4: [2dc, 2dc in next st] 8 times. (32 sts)

We will now join the inner and outer layers.

Insert the inner layer inside the outer layer so that the stitches match up.

Continue working on with yarn E from the outer layer.

Insert your hook through the next stitch on the outer layer and through the stitch on the inner layer behind it. Make a dc through both layers. Dc across both layers in each stitch around. (48 sts)

Ss to join. Fasten off and weave in any ends.

Construction

Sew the beak in between the eyes over rounds 14 to 18.

Sew the feet to the body. The magic ring on the feet should be centred on round 35 of the body.

Sew the wings to each side of the body. The right wing starts on round 23 of the body and angles downwards and backwards.

The left wing starts on round 26 of the body and angles forwards and upwards.

Sew the tail to the back of the body on round 35.

Weave in any ends. Place the hat on the head and your pigeon is ready to start baking!
