How to make
Cut the following lengths –
Group 1 - 5 x 7.5m
Group 2 - 10 x 2.5m
Group 3 - 5 x 8.5m
Group 4 - 5 x 3m
Make sure to label each end of string with a different colour for each group
Fold all of the lengths in half and group together, mark the centre.
Cut a further length of 5m
Measure 12cm down from the centre point of the group of strings. Place the centre of the new length under this point.
Now with the new string, work square knots around the group of strings. Continue until you have worked a total of 24cm.
Fold the square knots section in half and with a new length of string, create a gathering knot around all of the strings. You will now have created a loop. Cut the short strings left over from the gathering knot and the square knots.
Now separate your strings into the following groups –
2 x group 1 and 4 x group 2
2 x group 3 and 2 x group 4
You should now have a total of 10 groups of strings
Start by working the group made up of group 3 and 4. Put the other strings to the side for now.
Using the short lengths as the centre strings, create a row of square knots. Continue until work measures approx. 75cm from the bottom of the gathering knot.
Repeat for all 5 groups.
Now begin working the second set of strings.
Using the short lengths as the centre strings work a row of half square knots. Continue until work measures approx. 65cm.
Repeat for all 5 groups.
Undo the string holding the inner and outer wreath hoop together. Be careful of any sharp edges and push any staples flat against the wreath.
Beginning with the square knot group, mark 5 points around the smaller wreath that are equal distance apart. Now start attaching each group to these points with a double half hitch knot. Make sure that the centre of the group falls at the marked point to make sure the hoop hangs level.
Repeat with the larger hoop and attach the group of half square knots in the same way.
Sew in each end with a darning needle to secure, and cut off any loose ends. For extra security, glue gun the ends down.
Take a range of picks and position them around each wooden hoop. When you are happy with the arrangement, glue gun into place.
