Step 1
Download the free templates below and cut out your fabric pieces. You will need to cut 2 x stocking shapes and 1 x hanging tab shape and 1 x stocking cuff. Trace around the stocking cuff template onto the calico fabric but do not cut.
Step 2
Type and print out your chosen name in a script style font. Use a lightbox to trace the name onto the fabric using a heat erasable pen.
Step 3
Take three strands of DMC 3828 and back stitch the text, depending on the weight of your font you may want to fill in some sections of the letters like we have here.
Step 4
Cut out the cuff shape and press well to remove the pen markings and set aside.
Step 5
Take the hanging tab and press 1cm down either end, then press both sides in 1cm. Using the zig zag stitch on a sewing machine, stitch along the middle. Press well and set aside.
Step 6
Take the two fabric stocking pieces and pin right sides together. Sew using 1cm seam allowance. The sewing machine should be set to a width of 0 and a stitch length of 2.5.
Step 7
Press well once done, snip into the curve and overlock the seams together.
Step 8
Turn through and press the seams well - use a chopstick or knitting needle to make sure the seams are sharp.
Step 9
Overlock the top edge of the stocking.
Step 10
Take the cuff pieces and press well to remove any creases. We are going to french seam the cuff for neatness. Wrong sides together pin and sew the two side seams - 0.5cm seam allowance. Trim the seam allowance. Turn through and press. Stitch the side seam again approx 0.25cm seam allowance - the seam should enclose the first and press. Turn through again and press well.
Step 11
Overlock the top and bottom edges separately.

Step 12
Fold the bottom seam upwards on the inside up 1cm. Stitch down.
Step 13
Turn the cuff through so that it is inside out, and turn the stocking inside out too. Place the cuff over the top of the stocking so that the stocking is inside. Pin and sew using 1cm seam allowance.
Step 14
Turn the cuff the right way up and press the seam well. Turn the stocking the right way round and press again. The cuff should sit cleanly on top of the stocking.
Step 15
Take the hanging tab, fold and pin to the right of the stocking. Sew securely and press one final time.
Step 16
Your personalised stocking is now finished and ready for the big day!
