How to make

Step-1
How to make: If your beautiful yarn is still in hank form, you will need to hand-wind it into a ball or use a yarn winder to wind it into a cake. This hat is knit is super chunky, so the two strands of yarn are held together and knit as one.

Step-2
Holding the yarn double, cast on 48 stitches using the long-tail cast on technique. Join the stitches in the round, taking care not to twist the edge.
Step-3
Work 18 rows in 1×1 rib. You must finish on a purl stitch.

Step-4
As the brim is designed to be folded over, with the nice edge of the cast on on the outside, you will now turn your work around and inside out.
Step-5
Take the yarn to the back of the work, slip the next knit stitch knit-wise, bring the yarn to the front of the work, and turn your work around. To complete the step, turn the ribbing section through the centre of your circular needles or DPNs so you can continue working on the outside of the hat.
Step-6
Work in stockinette until your work measures 23cm from the cast on edge (approximately 13 rounds.) Place a stitch marker.
Step-7
Decrease round: *knit 6 stitches, k2tog*, repeat the section between the stars a further 5 times. (42 stitches)
Step-8

Step-17
Decrease round: *knit 1 stitch, k2tog*, repeat the section between the stars a further 5 times. (12 stitches)
Step-18
Cut the yarn approximately 20cm/8” and thread onto your sewing needle. Thread the needle through every stitch on the needle and remove the needle, then pull the top of the hat closed. Pass the thread through the stitches twice more, and pull tight. Leave the yarn tail hanging loose, as you will use this to attach the pom pom!
Step-19
Pom Pom: Cut a piece of yarn approximately 20cm/8”
Step-20
Wrap the yarn around your stretched fingers 120 times. Cut the yarn.
Step-21
Carefully remove the yarn from your fingers, and use the pre-cut piece of yarn to tie the pom pom securely through the centre. Make sure to tie it tightly, so the pom pom strands don't escape!
Step-22
Cut the pom pom and trim it until you are happy with the shape. Take care not to trim the piece of yarn that ties the pom pom together, as you will use this to attach the pom pom to your hat!
Step-23
Assembly: Thread your sewing needle with the yarn tail on the top of your hat, and thread it directly through the centre of the pom pom, and into the centre of the top of the hat.
Step-24
Thread the two long strands of the pom pom through the centre of the top of the hat.
Step-25
Turn your hat inside-out and tie the three pieces of yarn into a tight knot. Do it once more, just in case!
Step-26
Thread the yarn tails onto your sewing needle, and weave in the ends so they disappear.
Step-27
Weave in any other loose ends.
Step-28
Wear your hat!
