How to Sew a Fabric Dragonfly

Spring is well on it's way, and now's a great time to give your home a bit of a makeover with lots of crafty makes! These fabric dragonflies are a great make for beginner to intermediate sewers, and you can make them in all sorts of fabrics, you could even have a go at dying your own! You can use the finished dragonflies for all manner of projects; you could pop them onto a rattan wreath base, or even sew some clips onto the back of the dragonflies and have them positioned on your wall to make a three dimensional display.

How to make

Step 1
Cut out the parts for body and wings, and cut out wadding (batting) for the wings from the pattern. Two wing pieces, plus an additional wing piece cut from the wadding (batting) Two body pieces

Step 2
Put the parts right sides together, put the wadding (batting) beneath the wings and sew around. Make a reversing opening through one of the layers of fabric on the wings, see Figure A.

Step 3
Turn the wings and body right side out, stuff the body and iron the wings. You do not have to close the reversing openings. Glue the wings to under the body with the reversing openings against each other, see Figure B.

Step 4
The finished dragonfly!
